To start, mark your calendars for the CFOV $ummer $cramble Golf Tournament and Community Event at Wolf Creek Resort & Club on July 10. You don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy this fun-packed day that will have activities for all ages, including: • A crazy 9-hole putting tournament (scramble style) with two-person teams (parent/ child teams encouraged; $10/team. No golf experience needed); • A Chopper Drop, in which the excitement builds as a helicopter hovers over the green, dropping hundreds of golf balls. Whoever’s ball is at the bottom of each hole wins. There will be great prizes for the tournament, putting contest, and chopper drop. One hundred percent of the CFOV $ummer $cramble net proceeds go to CFOV programs, and the match-fund supporting its Partner NonProfit organizations. To sign up for a tournament team ($440/4-person team) or for more information about the CFOV $ummer $cramble, please contact Dennis Craig at 251-7763899 or <mrddc@hotmail.com> So, mark your calendars, and then run, walk, bike or rev up your engines and get ready to get into OVerDrive this summer. You’ll be glad you did! League of Women Voters Hosts Screening of Utah’s First Female Senator: Martha Hughes Cannon The League of Women Voters of Davis and Weber Counties and the Olene S. Walker Institute at Weber State University invite you to attend a free screening of the KUED documentary “Utah’s First Female Senator: Martha Hughes Cannon.” Martha received her M.D. from the University of Michigan and became resident physician at Deseret Hospital in Salt Lake City. She married Angus M. Cannon as a plural wife in 1884. She became active in the Utah and later the national suffrage movement advocating that women should have the right to vote. The Utah Territory granted women the right to vote in 1870, but that right was taken away by national legislation the same year. When Utah women received the right to vote through the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920, Martha Hughes Cannon ran against her husband in an election for the Utah State Senate and she defeated him. She was the first woman in the United States to be elected to a state senate. Two other Utah women were elected to the Utah House in the same election. This meeting is a celebration of women who become politically active, and we hope it will encourage more Davis and Weber County women to consider running for elected office. Currently there are only 6 women out of 29 members of the Utah State Senate, and only 9 women out of 75 members of the Utah State House of Representatives. The screening of Utah’s First Female Senator: Martha Hughes Cannon will be held Thursday, April 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the Weber State University Davis Campus, 2750 University Park Blvd. in Layton, in Ballroom A. Light refreshments will also be served. Doors open for seating at 6:30 p.m. Currently, Nelda Bishop is Co-President of the League of Women Voters of Davis County and Terri McCulloch is President of the League of Women Voters of Weber County. The League of Women Voters’ annual meeting will be held Monday April 13 at 6:00 p.m. at Harley and Buck’s, which is located at 2432 Washington Blvd. in Ogden. An election will be held for new officers, call for approval of last year’s minutes, and an opportunity to offer input on next year’s program for the League. Please plan on attending and bringing ideas about topics you would like the league to become involved in. For more information about The League of Women Voters visit <www.lwvutah.org> Register Today!
