We tell our children not to keep their cell phones on in front of their face all day long, and to seek different sources of knowledge. We teach them to be good, and stay away from drugs, and we teach them to have excellent role models in life. We want them to grow up to be someone like Mitt Romney. We believe that America is now in grave danger with Obama in the White House for four more years. We don’t think this great country can sustain it. Don’t be apathetic; we must keep fighting for our children’s sake. The election may be over, but the fight must go on. The war at home is much more important than the wars abroad. Obama does not have a mandate. Let’s not be weak and give him one. As an end note, I was the student body president at Valley Junior High when I was in the ninth grade. I was probably the worst president the school ever had. If that’s true, then that would be the only thing that Obama and I have in common. Obama promised to cut the deficit in half; he doubled it. The mainstream media didn’t report it, and the Teachers Union didn’t teach it. TV’s Sixty Minutes hid an interview they took the day after 09/11/2012 with Obama, because they knew it would be damaging to their golden boy where Obama said he knew, in so many words, that it was in fact a terrorist attack that killed four great Americans in Benghazi, Libya. That interview took place less than 24 hours after the attack, and Obama and his media hid that story for two months so he could get elected. They flat out lied to all of us. They only way we can see the America’s Conservative Party getting stronger is to take a page out of our book here in Utah. They should be scratching their heads wondering why we are the reddest state in the country. They should be asking themselves, “Why are the people who live in Utah so smart? Why do the Utahans have their stuff together so well?” We think it’s quite simple; we are the most family-oriented state in the country. When our children get home from school, we sit down with them and talk to them. We often have to deprogram our children from what their teachers have taught them that wasn’t in their text Lyle Bailey and Kent Hislop, books. We teach them to learn about politics Huntsville Photo by Dennis & Elodie Craig of Liberty. Let Your Voices Ring Out: It is our right and duty as citizens of the United States of America On October 23 - 25, I had the unique opportunity to travel to Las Vegas, Nevada to campaign for Mitt Romney along with a group of fellow volunteers from the Valley and Northern Utah. There were 55 of us on the bus, and while we were united in our cause to knock on doors for our presidential candidate, we were a varied group that made the trip a fun and dynamic experience. Fittingly, we even had a Marilyn Monroe impersonator with us, which, let’s face it, every trip to Vegas needs! As I knocked on doors I met a lot of people, some of whom thought like me and were keen to vote for Romney. Others, however, smiled as I spoke to them and told me that they were voting for the “their guy” President Obama. As you know, it was their vote ultimately that ended up the more popular, and while I am naturally disappointed that my candidate didn’t win, the thing that I’ve taken away from this experience is that the people I met were kind to me. They listened, they offered their perspectives, they wished me luck, and thanked me for my time and that is what makes America great. We don’t always agree. In fact, it seems that we agree less and less, but we are still fellow citizens; we all have a voice, and we all have the right, and the obligation, to use it. The presidential candidate that I campaigned for lost. I still think he was the better choice. I still think that we’re headed down a road that I don’t agree with. I still wish more people had listened to my voice than didn’t, but the spectacular thing about our country is that I’m allowed to think that. My side lost. The side that I campaigned for, knocked on doors for, put my name next to, and stood by, lost, and yet no police officer kicked down my door the next day. My life went on as it has ever gone on. There were no repercussions for choosing the opposite side of the winning ballot because I’m allowed, and encouraged, to let my voice be heard, be it for or against the policies of whichever President may be sitting in office. That is the blessed gift of free speech in this our wondrous country. However you may feel about this election, whether you are jubilant that your guy won another four years or depressed that your guy wasn’t given the chance to fix the mistakes of the last, I encourage you to take the time to consider the magnitude of the responsibility that we have to let our opinions be heard. We have been given a gift; let us not waste it in silence. Speak up. Get involved. If the side you backed loses one election, work harder so that they win during the next. If you can’t find anyone that you want to support, perhaps it’s time that you put your name out there and stepped up to the plate. Our country was founded on the strength of volunteers, and no matter what challenges face us in the future, I am convinced that the strength of willing hands will see us through. To my fellow Mitt Romney supporters, I say thank you. To everyone else, I say thank you. We voted in record numbers this election. Let us continue to shatter that record each and every election. Let your voices ring out. It is our right, our duty, and our glory as citizens of the United States of America. Dolores Manley, Eden Note: On Wednesday, October 23, Dolores traveled on a bus with 53 other Mitt Romney supporters who left for Nevada to campaign for Romney. They returned home the following Friday. Others from Ogden Valley who volunteered in the campaign event were Diane and Chuck Watson, Richard Evans, Susan Yauck, Lynn and Jacquee Ferrin, and Wally Waite. While in Las Vegas campaigning, Scott Russell and Blake Hazen who traveled with the Valley group, were interviewed by Fox News. While Hazen’s interview was aired on the news channel, Russell’s was not. He stated, “. . . I am here with a group of folks from Utah; who have come down to Vegas to help support and campaign for our next president of the USA, Mitt Romney. We are here as volunteers; I am a Vietnam veteran and proud to be here. I am tired of these past four Obama years. I don’t like Obama care, the massive deficit spending, and the direction America is going—especially the cutbacks in our defense spending. We need a new direction and Mitt Romney will provide that for us. God bless America. . . .” UDOT cont. from page 1 Eden - Work is concluding for the year on project to add safety improvements to SR-158, from Pineview Dam to milepost 8.1. Temporary lane restrictions may be in place along SR-158 as crews complete work at the Elkhorn Drive and Fairways Drive intersections. The roadway will be reduced to one lane where intersection work is taking place. For more information call the project hotline 855-762-7623 or email <sr158@utah.gov> directly beneath it, motorists can expect to see areas where part of the road must be torn out to access the pipeline. While every effort has been made to reduce impacts the nature of this narrow roadway suggests that delays will occur, so plan now to use alternate routes.
