As owners of the Eden Junction Car Wash and Laundromat (located behind Alpine Pizza), we would like to thank those who took the time to come out for our Grand Opening event held July 21. We met some great people. Every day is a learning experience and an opportunity to grow. With this in mind, we hope to continually grow our customer base in order to put the revenue back into making the Eden car wash even more user friendly with additional up-to-date equipment, and the ability to do more charity type events in the community. Again, thank you for your support Ogden Valley! Shawn Janke, Eden Car Wash Snowcrest Art Teacher Announces Retirement Dear Students, Former Students, and Parents of Students of Snowcrest Jr. High, This letter is to announce my retirement from teaching at Snowcrest, but, more importantly, to thank you all for your support of and interest in the art program at the school. I have truly enjoyed my associations with you students and your parents through the many years. I thank you for making my job interesting, challenging, and rewarding—I can honestly say that no two days were ever the same. I thank you for teaching me as many lessons as I taught you, and for all the gifts and notes of appreciation. Thanks for listening, smiling, and being curious, and as you have left Snowcrest and the years pass, I am particularly delighted when you come up to me at a restaurant or a store and say hello. Sometimes you have to reintroduce yourself, because there are a lot of changes between the ages of 14 and 30+, but nevertheless, it is a joy to see you anytime and to chat for a few minutes about your life. Of course, not everyone who takes an art class necessarily paints and draws for the rest of their life, or ends up in an art career, but what I hope I have accomplished is to open your eyes to the amazing world around you. I hope I have left you with the lifelong skills and desire to see and think like an artist, with the capability to perceive and solve problems from different points of view. I hope I have contributed to your ability to undertake difficult tasks with confidence and perseverance. Snowcrest is a great school in one of the most beautiful places on earth, with a fantastic and talented staff. I hope you recognize and appreciate these things and take full advantage of all the opportunities you have here. I will miss being your teacher, and I wish you all good luck and success. Keep up the good work and always do your best! Love, Mrs. Jennifer Sorensen, Huntsville The Fourth of July at Huntsville Park: “A pretty great celebration!” The Fourth of July celebration in Huntsville, Utah this year was nothing less than an incredible day—a respectable, patriotic, good old hometown, redneck love fest commemorating the birth of this wonderful United States of America. The day was full of healthy activities, beginning with a flag-raising ceremony that attracted hundreds to stand at attention and pay honor to Old Glory. The rest of the day consisted of food, games, a family-friendly parade, a top-ofthe-line patriotic program including a WWII veteran, melodrama, dancing, and reuniting of friendships. The day culminated with the retiring of the colors in a similar dramatic fashion as the raising. Huntsville’s Fourth of July flag raising ceremony. Photos by Steve Johnson of Huntsville. See page 9 for the story of the event. The park was filled to capacity as an estimated 5000 people stood and a hush fell over the crowd as the flag was properly lowered, folded, and delivered to the waiting horseman. The scene and feeling caused burly men to tear up and cell phones to be silenced. Then, as a patriotic song played, the three horsemen galloped twice around the park and exited to a huge applause and cheers as the fireworks then commenced to blast. “In the Rockets’ Red Glare . . . . A pretty great celebration put on by a bunch of patriotic, unpaid, untrained, volunteer amateurs, I may say. Sue Munson, A comment received from Col. Kolbe, 75th Wolf Creek Foundation Why Identification Should Be Required at Voting Polls Why is it that the Democrats are making such a big deal about states that are requiring official state or federal identification to vote? Have you ever tried to board an airplane without identification? If so you know you will be turned around and escorted out of the airport and maybe detained for questioning. Have you ever tried to purchase liquor, drive a vehicle, or cash a check without a current legal identification card? If so, you were rejected. Many merchants are even asking for ID if you’re using a credit/debit card. So why do the Democrats accuse the Republicans of trying to deter vote turn out? Is it only Democrats who run around our country without ID? Or, is it only Democrats who have dead people rising up out of their graves to vote. The United States has been known for a fair and honest election system until the last few elections. Now we are seeing evidence of dead people voting and people voting in more then one state or county. Voter fraud is on the rise and becoming a major problem. This is why legal state or federal identification must be required today, not because anyone is attempting to restrict someone’s right to vote. So let’s stop this accusation that Republicans are trying to steal the election by pushing for ID check at polling booths. I find it amazing that during the election in November 2008 that the New Black Panthers in Chicago were allowed to stand outside the Polling Booths with baseball bats in their hands, and not a word was said and Eric Holder would not file charges but he is fighting these states that are doing something about voter fraud by requesting proper identification. Sounds like a double standard to me. Steve Balek, Eden |
