The deadline for the OVN May 1 issue is April 18. Letters to the Editor Why Are You Willing to Give Up Your Unalienable Rights? We the people of the United States of America are probably the most diverse people in the entire world . . . . We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. United we stand; divided we will fall. One of the most dangerous policies of any nation is passing laws that give certain groups priority over others. In this nation, this has led to the dole versus workers; woman verses men; children verses parents; minorities verses everyone; mothers verses the unborn, which has led to the slaughter of millions and millions of babies. It is clear that government is the master and we the people are the servants. And we the people are no longer capable of deciding what is good and what is evil. Big wigs in Washington, and other officials, make the decisions. Teachers were once revered and trusted to teach correct principles; now unions, government officials, and Planned Parenthood put forth the curriculum. The time has arrived when evil is being put forth as good and good is being put forth as evil. It is stated that a people gets exactly the kind of government that it deserves. This is not saying much for the people of America right now. We are no longer “Americans,” just numerous individual groups of people looking out for their own interests—groups who will discriminate against anyone who gets in their way. Every city and town in America is at fault. We all have our hand out for federal funds without ever giving a second thought to where this will lead . . . just as long as we get the filthy lucre. You give us money and we will give you our power so you can rule over us, willingly submitting to every rule and regulation. And we the people just sit back and say all is well, all is well; we no longer care. One day each will face our Creator, and first, above all other questions, each will be required to answer this “Why did you give up your unalienable rights and put your trust in the arm of flesh?” own hand or their own party; an economic melt-down, war in the middle-east, threats of terrorism (or man-made disaster events to be politically correct) were among the most serious. And, many of us are willing to give credit where credit is due. We still have many nagging problems to contend with that haven’t been fully addressed. For many of us there are serious doubts that have more to do with attitude and perspective. We can make concessions for the seemingly arrogant aura of a young, inexperienced chief executive wanting to demonstrate confidence. We can accept an attitude of “we know what’s best” from members of the administration on the same basis; we’re all imperfect beings. What is unacceptable is best described as “wrong headedness.” There is concern about the vision for the future of America, a vision that does not cede our national sovereignty to global management or entangle us with global restrictions that stymie our own economic wellbeing. The most powerful country in the world cannot and should not rely on others to decide what is in our best interest; that is a job we have to do for ourselves. A conflicted nation is being torn apart by differing ideologies; Liberal/Progressives and Conservatives clash on almost every issue. The intransigency of these clashes threatens the wellbeing of our nation. It seems unthinkable that the U.S. Senate would not be able to pass a budget for over three years. At this time, com- promise does not seem possible on most major issues that call for a solution—it’s time for change. It’s time for a leader and his party to bring calm out of chaos and restore America’s values and put Americans first. Some other organization or other countries can’t do it; this is a “do it yourself” project. This is a “we the people” project that can only be accomplished with a fully engaged electorate working with elected representatives as our Constitution calls for. Let’s be fair to our founding fathers and follow their wise counsel as given in the Declaration of Independence—“Governments are instituted among men deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” This November we can change our nation’s future by sending principled, dedicated, honest representatives to Washington to do the peoples’ business; that’s how it’s supposed to work. That’s how it will work if, and only if, we the people stay engaged and let our representatives know that they are expected to honor the Constitution with their actions. Otherwise, you have some other form of government, perhaps a “Banana Republic,” not a Republic as intended. There are dozens of “Republics” in this world that are representative governments in name only; ours can still be a true republic if we put in the work. Freedom is a gift but it isn’t free. Vonda Odekirk, Farr West To Be Fair In the coming 2012 Presidential election, Republican candidates will be accused of every racial bias imaginable for opposing President Obama. In fact, it has already started. With a huge re-election war-chest and mainstream media bias, the President’s backers will blitz the public with negative images of the opposition. We need to be clear about what motivates opposition of the present administration. Conservatism knows no skin color or ethnicity you only have to look at who some of the prominent conservatives are. Families of every ethnic stripe have conservative values particularly those that have worked and struggled to get ahead and to send their children and grand children to college to realize their full potential. We have nothing to fear from a strong black man as leader. We have everything to fear from someone with the ideological objectives that permeate the Liberal/Progressive—agenda no matter what his or her ethnicity. We also need to fear a repeat of the 2008 election campaign in which the media fell all over themselves to jump on the Obama bandwagon. They might be excused for their enthusiasm at the prospects of a first American black president. A repeat of that performance would only reinforce the notion that there is a serious absence of objectivity in the main stream media.
