Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley news Volume XX Issue V April 1, 2012 Announcements Birth Greg and Danielle Baker of Liberty welcome the birth of their second child, Charlotte Lea Baker. She was born February 22, 2012 at 7:42 a.m. at Ogden Regional Hospital, weighing 8 lbs. 3 oz., and measuring 21-inches long. Charlotte joins her 2½-year-old brother Paton into the Baker family. Pictured left is Charlotte Lea Baker. Birthday Ralph Henry Hansen of Huntsville celebrated his 80th birthday with his family on March 24, 2012. He was born March 24, 1932 in Huntsville to Henry Ralph and Nora Mortensen Hansen. He grew up in the Ogden Valley, working on the family farm from a young age while attending Valley School and graduating from Weber High School. He then attended Utah State University where he studied agriculture before joining the U.S. Marines. He served during the Korean War. He also worked at the American Can Company until it closed. He married Helen Shupe on June 15, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home is Huntsville and raised their family there on the farm. In 1987 they became snowbirds and began spending the cold months in Quartzsite, Arizona. His children and their spouses are Rod and Connie Hansen, Fountain Green, Utah; Chris and Brooke Hansen, Paradise, Utah; Ralph Hansen and Jodi and Scott Richardson, Jill and John Goff, and Richard and Shannon Hansen, all of Huntsville, Utah. Dad has 33 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren with 3 more great-grandchildren on the way. Obituaries Marcia Saunders Lindsay Marcia Saunders Lindsay, 77, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and dear friend returned home to our Father in Heaven on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 Marcia Lindsay surrounded by the people she loved. Marcia was born on July 22, 1934 in Ogden, Utah, daughter of Edward T. and Marcia Slater Saunders. She was the youngest of twelve children and was raised in Ogden. She graduated from Ogden High and attended Weber State College where she met her sweetheart David S. Lindsay. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by President David O. McKay on November 4, 1954. Marcia had a true love for family and the gospel. As her older sister Anna would say, “The richest gift you can have is family.” Everyone was her “favorite,” niece, nephew, brother, sister, daughter, son, neighbor, friend. When you were with her, you truly felt like you were. She loved you all so much. Even though physical and mental ailments had limited her in her ability to get around and do things, she never lost her warmth, wit, or sense of humor. Military News Faun Allen Bronson PVT2 Cooper Maher Together Again PVT2 Cooper Maher, son of Dennis and Cynthia of Eden, recently graduated at the top of his class in basic training for the U.S. Army at Ft. Benning Georgia. Maher was a member of the Bravo Troop, 5-15 Calvary Scouts, 3rd Platoon, also known as the War Donkeys. From his 170-member unit, Maher, at graduation, was awarded the Draper Armor Leadership Award, which was established in 1924. It is presented to the soldier who has shown the most leadership skills throughout the cycle and the most potential for future leadership roles. He also received two additional awards: one presented for excellence in the 194th Armored Brigade; the other, for outstanding performance in the 15th Cavalry, 5th Squadron. He was also one of only three who was deployed overseas directly after graduation. He left for Camp Casey in South Korea on March 12. Faun Allen Bronson, 92, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012. She was born on March 29, 1919 in Ogden, the daughter of Daniel and Ella Wilson Allen. Faun Bronson Faun was raised in Huntsville. She graduated from Weber High School. She knew LaVern Bronson all her life and they were married on October 19, 1939 in Huntsville. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Faun was a wonderful seamstress and learned to sew on a miniature sewing machine. She learned by making doll clothes. This led to a love of sewing and she started working at 18 years of age, sewing bundles of clothes as well as many prom dresses for girls in the town. She sewed many, many quilts and donated them to the needy. She taught 4-H for ten years; one of cooking and nine years of sewing. She Dr. E. Russell Van Dyke November 27, 1917 – March 9, 2012 Ellis Russell Van Dyke, faithful husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Friday March 9, 2012 in Logan, Utah at the age of 94. He was Dr. E. Russell born November 27, 1917 Van Dyke in Ogden, Utah, the son of Elles Nicholas and Ella V. Jorgensen Van Dyke. He attended schools in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High in 1935. He met Joyce Williams at a “Get Acquainted” Dance at Ogden High and they married on August 2, 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple. He attended the University of Utah and Weber State College before graduating from the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry in 1942. Soon after graduation, he received his marching orders and served three years as a dentist in the U.S. Army during WWII, which included service in North Africa and Italy. He established a dental practice in Ogden from 1945 to 1953. Seeing a need for his young patients to receive orthodontic care, he returned to school and continued his education, specializing in Orthodontics at the University of Washington, Seattle. He graduated in 1954 and returned to Ogden where he practiced until his retirement in 1990. Dad loved helping to provide beautiful smiles on young people and loved his work and association with his peers She had a genuine love for all those she came in contact with. Marcia left behind her husband, David S. Lindsay, her children David J. Lindsay, Janette (Craig) Hawkins, Ken (Paige) Lindsay, and Julee (Waldo) Trujillo; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Lawrence, Leland, Glen, and Darrell; sisters Marva Elggren, Ilene Smith, Lou Jean Wiggins; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by grandson David William Lindsay; brothers, Edward, Marvin, and Carl Saunders; and sister, Anna Easthope. We truly mourn the loss of such a beautiful and virtuous daughter of God. We are grateful for the opportunity to have been associated with such an example of Christ-like qualities and for all the ways she blessed our lives. While we shed tears of sorrow, let us also rejoice that she is now reunited with our Heavenly Father, the Savior, and other family members on the other side. She lived an exemplary life and her example and influence will be felt for generations. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 10 at the Country Crossing Ward Chapel, 1285 S. 2500 W., Syracuse. Interment will be at the Eden Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Davis North Hospital and Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary for their kind and gentle manner in handling our sweet Marcia. worked at Leon’s Market, Lowes Hardware, Allied Hardware, and McKay Dee Hospital as a cashier. She and Vern gave service to anyone in need. She has served in numerous callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; a counselor in the Mutual Presidency and on the Mutual Stake Board. She was president of the Night Relief Society. She was secretary and then counselor in the Relief Society for three different presidencies. She served in the presidencies for about ten years. She was also a visiting teacher. Faun is survived by her sons, Kenneth V. Bronson and Russell (Jana) P. Bronson; daughters, DeeAnn (Larry) Strebel and Linda Geary; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Wilson, Mark, and Dean; and sisters, Mern Allen and Pauline Weaver Harrington. A special thanks to Willow Glen Health and Rehab staff, nurses and aides for their love, care, and kindness they offered to mom. A very special thanks to Jennylynn of Bristol Hospice; you are wonderful. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the Huntsville 1st Ward, 277 S. 7400 E., Huntsville, Utah. Interment, Huntsville City Cemetery. and patients. Dad gave up golf for horses, cows, and tractors when he purchased a farm in Liberty, Utah in 1960. He and Mom spent many years enjoying country life with their family during the summer months. Dad was a past member of the Ogden Rotary Club, past President of the Liberty Irrigation Company, Life member of the American Association of Orthodontics and a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dad was always a kid at heart and enjoyed associating with young people. He enjoyed serving the youth and took a true interest in their lives when he served in Y.M., as a Stake Missionary, and as a dedicated home teacher. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed. Russell is survived by five children, Thomas R (Annette) Van Dyke, Farr West; Scott E (Geniel) Van Dyke, South Ogden; Mimi (Curt) Noel, Cottonwood Heights; Leigh C (Barbara) Van Dyke, Kaysville; and Edmund W. (Michelle) Van Dyke, Smithfield; 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 1 greatgreat-grandchild; and sister, Anita Edwards, Honolulu, Hawaii. He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce, and a sister Evelyn Stecher. His family would like to thank the Legacy House staff in Logan and the hospice care givers for the loving care they provided for over three years. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Weber Heights Stake Center, 1401 E. Country Hills Dr, Ogden, Utah. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
