Through incorporation of Ogden Valley, community challenges will be addressed through active collaboration and public engagement and by accommodating growth in a sustainable way that maintains our rural integrity and tradition while enabling people who live and work here to thrive. This can be achieved by Ogden Valley becoming its own municipality—a self-governing Political Subdivision of the State with a governing body elected solely by local residents. The proposed boundaries of the new town will include most of the valley floor and surrounding hillsides. For a map of these proposed boundaries, and additional information regarding the incorporation process, including the upcoming feasibility study, please visit Facebook page OgdenValleyIncorporation, or send an email to OVIncorporation@gmail.com. A community meeting has also been planned to discuss the incorporation status and next steps, present the proposed city map, and to answer questions from the community. It is scheduled for February 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Ogden Valley Library in Huntsville Town. Postmaster Asks Residents to Keep Snow & Ice Cleared Away from Mailboxes “Bargaining for Eden” Author to Speak at Trails Foundation Event in May The Trails Foundation of Northern Utah (TFNU) is seeking event sponsors for its 2023 Author Dinner. The dinner will be held May 5 at the Timbermine Steakhouse in Ogden and features award-winning Utah writer, editor, and photographer Stephen Trimble. Trimble is no stranger to residents of Ogden Valley. His 2008 book Bargaining for Eden tells the story of the late Earl Holding’s efforts to acquire public land for Snowbasin ski resort in advance of the 2002 Winter Olympics. It also details the personal conflicts over wildland preservation that Trimble grappled with as he built a family home in Torrey near Capitol Reef National Park. During his 50 years of wandering the Desert West, Trimble has published 25 award-winning books. He is currently working on a new edition of The Sagebrush Ocean—A Natural History of the Great Basin. Trimble’s Author Dinner program is entitled “Cathedral in the Desert: A Lifetime in the Anthropocene West.” His award-winning photos will take the audience on a tour of the Intermountain West as he shows how human activities have impacted the environment— enough to create geologic change. He calls the changes he will show through his photographs “sometimes catastrophic and occasionally thrilling.” Among other topics, he will discuss the drought-stricken Colorado River that is now exposing Glen Canyon as well as Mount Ogden and Snowbasin that were “updated” for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Trimble asks: “What will happen to our mountains? What will happen to our deserts? What will happen to our rivers? How do we grapple with change in our home landscape? We don’t yet have answers, but we need to ask these questions.” In 2019, Trimble was Stephen Trimble honored as one of Utah’s 15 most influential artists. He has taught writing at the University of Utah where he received a Wallace Stegner Fellowship at the Tanner Humanities Center and received the Sierra Club’s Ansel Adams Award for photography and conservation. Organizations and individuals interested in sponsoring Trimble’s presentation in Ogden should contact TFNU Marketing and Communications Coordinator Kelli Barkema at 801-393-2304. Event sponsorships are $3,000 and include 2 tickets to a V.I.P. reception with Trimble, a table of 10 at the dinner, logo on all printed materials, listing on TFNU’s event website and Facebook event page and two social media highlights. Tickets for tables of 10 are $1,000, VIP Reception Tickets are $250 and individual event tickets are $100 and will go on sale in February at tfnu.org. For more information, contact Kelli Barkema at 801-393-2304 or kelli@tfnu.org. snow. Please note, however, if you are unable to keep your box safe and accessible, your mail will be placed on snow hold at the Eden Post Office.
