The longest-running Nutcracker in the country, Ballet West’s glorious production features fantastical sets, gorgeous costumes, and spell-binding special effects that will take you on a whimsical journey to the land of the sweets and around the world! America’s first Nutcracker, last year more than 42,000 attended a Ballet West performance! Hailed as the first and longest running in America, Ballet West’s production of The Nutcracker has been recognized by Gov. Spencer J. Cox as a national treasure that should be celebrated by locals and tourists alike. Salt Lake City-based Ballet West annually performs America’s first Nutcracker—no other city, state, or company can boast that,” said Cox. Come experience a true legacy that brings families and friends back year after year. The choreographed performance by Willam Christensen is set to the beloved music of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The scenic design is by John Wayne Cook with assistance from Dick and Belinda Bird, with costume design by David Heuvel. The world premiere performance of this now classic ballet was in 1944 at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco, California. Utah’s first performance was on December 27, 1955, in Utah’s historic Kingsbury Hall on the University of Utah campus. Kingsbury Hall, built in 1930, was designed by Edward O. Anderson and Lorenzo Snow Young.
