The Western Legends Roundup—what’s known as a cowboy poetry rodeo—was held in Kanab, Utah earlier this fall. The growing annual event was first held in 1998, and today draws talent from all over the Western United States. Contestants can enter four categories: poet-humorous, and poetserious, where the performers recite their original works; or reciter-humorous, and reciter-serious, where established works of poetry are recited. In this category poets are judged for their artistic presentations. Cowboy poetry has been part of Tixier’s life for about the past ten years. “I started writing and performing to see if I could do it.” Entering all four categories this year, Tixier demonstrated that he can do it—he claimed a First Place win in the reciter-serious and reciter-humorous categories; a Second Place win in the poethumorous category; and a Third Place win in the rhyme-off in the poet-serious category. Referring to Don Kennington, a cowboy poet legend from Farr West, Tixier stated, “It surprised me that I took a second place to Don Kennington in the poethumorous category. That’s a real honor.” Anyone interested in next year ’s event can contact Sam Jackson at 435-644-5359, or at desertim@kanab.net Happy Holidays New Two Story Home for Sale Heritage Knoll 1316 North 7000 East Eden 1 Acre Lot Zoned for Animals 3,000 Square Ft.
