Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 4 Volume V, Issue IV December 1, 2001 Job’s Daughters By Ashley Sniggs Job’s Daughters in an organization created for the purpose of banding together young women who are between the ages of eleven and twenty, and who are related to a Master Mason. A Master Mason is a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Masonic order that stands for the brotherhood of humanity. Ashley Sniggs The Masonic organization is not a religion or a cult, and many of our founding Fathers and political leaders are, or were, Masons—George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Bill Clinton, Bush Sr. and Jr., and also Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Job’s Daughters is no part of this organization, but members must be related to a Mason. Jobies is a non-denominational organization, based on the story of Job from the bible. In the bible, it teaches that Job’s daughters were the fairest in all the land, and the organization’s purpose is to strive to teach, that to be fair, is to do good deeds. Job’s Daughters Bethel #14. Job’s Daughters is a non-profit organization that participates in community services like serving the homeless, highway cleanups, and making quilts for women’s shelters. We also participate in charity projects like H.I.K.E. (hearing impaired kids endowment fund), a national charity of Jobies. We do fundraisers for breast cancer and Alzheimer’s. We also participate in church services, and assist our Masons by serving dinners or, by helping when we are asked. Job’s Daughters also participate in competitions of choir, skit, drill and softball. There is an annual Grand Session held in Salt Lake City where we meet Job’s Daughters from throughout the state. Here we participate in competitions, have meetings, and just have fun. We stay in a hotel for the weekend, and form lifelong friendships, and lasting memories. Job’s Daughters is not only a statewide organization, but also a worldwide organization. There are opportunities to travel. You can go to other states, or to other countries to participate in a Supreme Session. When I was 15, I had the opportunity to go to Australia. It was a life changing experience that I will never forget. I made friends with Job’s Daughters from other countries, and from other states. Job’s Daughters is a great tool in assisting a young woman to become complete. It builds speaking, memorization, and leadership skills; and respect for elders and the community. Participation in Job’s Daughters looks great on college applications, and can boost community support activities, which is helpful to note when applying for a scholarship. Job’s Daughters has a scholarship program, and has given me the opportunity to attend college. There is also a really fun side of Jobies. We go camping, have sleepovers, go to the dam, have cake decorating contests, go to haunted houses, out to dinners, and out for ice cream. The friendships I have made in Job’s Daughters are lifelong, and I am blessed that I have had the opportunity to participate. I once was a very shy girl, with few friends, and now I am outgoing with strong speaking, writing, and leadership skills. No one can believe that I am that shy girl I once was. wisebird of eden Opens Its Doors Judy Loper and daughter Stacie Durbano, co-owners of wisebird of eden books & gifts, welcome customers to the Eden store's grand opening, held November 19 through November 24.
