political that took this opportunity to strike back at us taxpayers because we turned them down at the polls because of their questionable conduct in office Yet to make it worse Storey went along with them We of course can see that Storey is never reelected but the damage is done We and our children will continue to pay the price of this bad action Their reasons are so spurious It is an age-ol- d procedure for demagogues to say they need to get their salaries in line with someone else but that someone is always intangible and not substantiated I doubt if any private business in Ogden can afford to give $7000 increases and then follow up with cost of living increases Any raises a good business would give would be to efficient intelligent hard working employees that really produced At least two of the commissioners would have been fired long ago if they held jobs in private industry The reasoning that high salaries are necessary to attract good men is not valid Not the Abscam scandals in Congress the visible alcoholism and the sexual escapades of some Senators and Congressmen who are all paid exorbitant salaries and have about unlimited expense accounts Clean efficient government will attract good men We need a law that incumbent county politicians cannot raise their own salaries without the express consent of the voters through the ballot box We need a recall law so we can quickly get rid of officials who use their offices for their has-bee- ns tive son Anderson who hails from the northwest part of the state This election may well be decided in the suburbs
