Etlucutioual. Morgan City, March 20, 1875. EDW. NELSON & Near the U. N. R. R. Depot. Editoi Junction: The adjourned meeting of Morgan County Educational Association was held according to previous notice Tnere were four school districts represented; an I no doubt many more would have been, but for the recent heavy snow storms, that have nearly blockaded the roads. The meeting was presided over by our worthy President, Jos. R. Porter, (who is also our County Superintendent of Common Schools.) who, after briefly staling that tbe object of this Association was to render assistance to school teachers, school trustees and the public, in any way that opportunity might afford, extended to all present the privilege of suggesting any measure they might deem advantageous for this association to adopt, for said purpose. As it would trespass too much upon your valuable space to give a detailed report of tbe remarks made, and the names of the speakers, I will merely state that all present were fully awake, and fully understand our educational status, regretting much that we are behind, in the least, any locality of our Territory in facilities and advantages for thoroughly educating our youth. All favored a speedy reform in our method and system of conducting our educational affairs, and of adopting the more modern methods. It was finally moved, seconded and carried, that this meeting appoiat a committee of two, to petition the Board of Directors at their next meeting, to appropriate out of (he funds of this Association, means to purchase such works and treatises on education, as they may select from the list presented to them by said committee; said works and treatises to be circulated throughout the county, for the publio good. T. H Q. Welch, Corresponding Secretary, and Jno. Seaman. Recording Secretary, were appointed said committee. The next meeting of the Association will be called at the instance of the President, as the unsettled stale of the heather and roads make it impracticable to hold our meetings at all times, according to prescribed rules.
