The programme for the Celebration oo Monday next will be found in anolh- er column. On behalf of the citizen of Ogden, we beg leare to inform the "pow that be," and all people, "Clack" as aa well white, that nothing treasonable, rebellion or "higufalutin" is intended. The people feci thankful for their pleas- in ant and peaceful homes, the liberty they enjoy, and the refuge from persecution they have gained in the vales of Utah, anil they want to express it. They honor the men who found for them a path through the desert, and laid the foundation of present prosperity and a great St. te yet to . tank among the foremost in the Union, and they want io show it in their own way at free men and women have the right to do, while obedient to Constitu-tionlaw. ( The people of Weber county mean to hate a "good time" on Monday next. Every settlement in the County is expected to lake pert in the general celebration, getting up their own show as a section of the procession, with their own baunert, bands and display. Each ought to have a banner with the same of the Settlement in conspicuous 'characters. The members of Zion's Camp, the Mormon JJattallion and the Pioneers of '47 are invited to come from all part of the Territory. The various trades anil professions in this city, with appropriate mottoes, are expected to make the best exhibition they can. The ladies cf the Relief Society, and the children of the schools are expected to march in the procession, and everybody who intend t take part in tlic proceedings, .except the- - guests to be 'escorted, should br on Tabernacle Squaro at 9 o'clock a.m. A large bowery will be erected on Union Sqiwre, aad a general invitation is given to all who choose to? be present at the exercise. It should be a universal holiday througnut this city and county, all persons joining in a fraternal spirit to celobrate tho glorious day when the flag of our country was planted in the , al C(Kt axi) RKrBitsiiixo.-a-Sodfountain at the Pioneer Druj Store. Oa the 14th A few months ago, Arthur Perkins was hung by the Vigilantes of Virginia, and his associates were notified to leave the town. Kirk was one of them, aud he went to Eureka. He was born, so says the Gold Hill Xeui, in Fayette county, Missouri, and was about 38 years old. He moved to California at an early age, and with a bad reputation, having credit for killing his uncle before leaving home. Ho aleo killed a man in California, and served out a term of imprisonment in the Nevada State "Prison for burglary, where he assisted in the outbreak at which the Warden received a mortal wound, During Kirk's residence in Virginia, his house was a rendezvous for thieves and rowdies. He returned on Thursday last from Eureka, though strongly advised not to do so by his friends. He said his intention was lo leave next morning for Ophir mines, East canyon, Utah. Under the influence of liquor he became reckless, and went boldly about town, going into a dance house and other places, and finally, set himself down for a drunk at the house of a woman called Dutch Mary, opposite the City Hall. Here an officer of tho police arrested him on a charge of assaulting a man in the street, but the officer was rudely thrust aside, and several men seized Kirk, thrust him into a carriage and drove off toward Cedar Hill. About 200 men walking in small parties, so as not to attract notice, congregated at an old car track of the Sierra Nevada mine, opposite the mill, a rope was tied round one of the stringers, and Kirk was placed on the track, the noose placed round his neck, and he was pushed off. When information was given to the authorities of Kirk's capture, an ofllcer and powe were started out immediately with lanterns. They were some time before finding any trace of his whereabouts. When they came to where he was suspended, they found his neck broke, his hands tied behind him, his eyes bandaged and a paper pinned to his Hhirt front with these words, "George I). Kirk, committed C01 returning to town." In his pockets were found a valuable gold watch, a small sura of os buuic letters and papers. Utah has never seen the day when a Vigilance Committee was necessary within her borders. Legitimate authority has always been suflicieut to preserve order, aud execute the penalties of the law. 1 he presence of such illegal tribunals is no credit to any place, but in view of there being one ruffian less in Entt Canyon, we repeat the old saying, "it's an ill wind that blows nobody uy, good." .1 A "a little knowledge thing" was illustrated is a in a z.
