Show THE IKON WORKS. The bankruptcy of the Ogdca Iron Manufacturing Company was greatly lamouted by the public, and we shared in the general regret. The failure to manufacture iron in within the time specified and agreed upon by the Company, was nut the fault of the country or its re sources, nor of the works erected. It lay in the management; or to epotik more correctly, the lack of management. No fault can he found with the Iron Works. They are excellent in construction, and are admirably . cess From 1 We admire the pluck of the men who are trying to resurrect the iron project. We hope they will be successful. There is money in the en- terprise, and there is a great public good iu L We want iron made at, home. Nearly all we get now comes flighted over many hundreds of miles of railroad at heavy rates. Here we are with four important raiiruads in' actual juuetion in this city, and others in contemplation; with an almost inexhaustible supply of rich ir n ores close atour doors, and more within fourteen miles of us; with splendid water powers; with lots of skilled artisans accustomed to the manufacture of th metal; with no end of coil at a short distance, and a C"cst-ititlactive local market for all the iron that can. be made, and an opening fur its sale all over the IV THIRTY-FIRS- T DAY. - . bail in the sum of $8,000 TIIEI2t D.SUAL WAY. S. L. Herald. Another. Mr. Philip Pugsley states in a card to the Herald this morning, that his name was placed on the opposition ticket for alderman, without his knowledge or consent. Of course he refuses to run on such a ticket. Next. The so called 'Liberals" of Salt Lake are always reduced, when election time comes, to miserable shifts, in order to make up a ticket council. The hills were parsed. - with any pretensions to respectability Thej always oppose the People's Ticket. But this opposition is not founded in rational objections to the People's nominees. No matter who is on the ticket, or who is not on it, they howl about it just the same Aud in making up an opposinj ticket, they always include the names of gentlemen who will not serve aud whose consent is not obtained, or even requested. This impudent attempt to compro mise the character and reputation of citizens who have no desire to be identified with such a disreputable clique, is rascally and contemptible but all in keeping with their genera lain. Akothbr Prisoner Escaped. Last Tuesday night a prirtoer.named Hale, with several aliases, escaped from the penitentiary, Salt Lake City. For the past few days Hale has feigned sickness and would often remain in bed while the other prisoners were exercising in the yard. Ou Tuesday, however, he went out with the rest, and during the duy managed to stuff some clothes with straw, which he arranged in his bunk to look like a person in bed. About the titae of the evening count, Hale hid in the yard, and the officer in charge, in counting his prisoners before locking up, supposed he had them all, as the bunks all appeared to be occupied. After the warden had retired for the night, Hale came out from his hiding place, and, piling up some tubs that happened to be in the yard, he got on them, and by this means scaled the gate aud left for parts unknown.
