PENROSE, Editor. 0I)i:, The Coming Tw enty-Fourt- h. of July U fraught with interest to the people of Utah i any day In the calendar. It is the anuWerfary of the entrance into Salt Lake Valley of the brave men, who in 1847, tintfrr the leadership of President Brlgham Young, pioneered the way through the desert for the feet of the weary pilgrims who were driven from the confines of civiliietion aolely oo account of their religious faith. They made the roads, bridged the streams. and unfurled the flag of our country to the mountain winds, opening a path for the oppressed to flee from persecution, and commencing the battle against the rude elements of this sterile region which has resulted in such glorious victory to the arms of industry. Ibis day should be commemorated perpetually, .Our children should be ahown what has been done for them, and taught to reverence the names of those who smoothed their way of comfort. We are pleased to see that the municipal authorities intend to celebrate the day in a manner befitting its importance, ancl. we hope to see all Weber county repfesested on the joyful oocasion. The Ogtfen brass band should be out In full blast, and every band and choir in the county ought te gather bore on the com-in- g twenty-fourt- h and make the City joyful with sweet music. It is to be a County Celebration. ,Tlioae settlements which bave made calculations to commemorate (be day im their own precincts should put aside their separate arrangements and unite in the true "Mormon" spirit to make a good time of it in Ogden. We anticipate! general holiday; and ay to all tor cotintry cousins and everybody elee who feels inclined to join, come and help to make a Celebration worthy of the day. of the men whom we wish to honor, and of the people who are reaping the fruits of the labors ef the pioneers.
