JAMES McOAW, President and Business Manner, to whom all Business communications should be addressed, t" ft' f- Keport on Fowls and of the Deseret Parent ihe of improveintroduction, Society ment and propagation of blooded ttock, To the Preuident etc. Dear Sie: Your committee on fowls and swine beg leave to report that, where the noble,' full blooded horse has the privilege granted to him to neigh, the thoroughbred cow to low, and the fine blooded sheep to bleat, tlicy think the pure-bre- d rooster, on the inp of the denied the dunghill,' slicrtild not-be privilege of a hearty, loud, melodious and pro) on red crow. When we are talking of improving our stock in this Territory, the people at large will be certainly as much benefitted by having fowls,' that will lay at least double the number of eggs that our common dunghill fowls lay during the year, as to' have fine horses, good cowg, tho best of sheep, Italian bees, eto , because there are a good many persons in this Territory who ar not able to invest in such i valuable (stuck, but who can afford to spend , few dollars for a dozen or" half a dozeri of eggs from pure-bre- d fowls, which will not only supply a very fair number of eggs durwhile .they ing the whole year, are moulting, but some of which will sacrifice their bodies at four months old n as an 'almost bird, for a and will family's Sunday dinner-tablsatisfy the taste of the greatest epicure. From expoi'ience"we ' would recommend for our climate the introduction of French Houduns, White Leghorn and White Spanish, as and the Clack Javas and light' and dark Brahmas as best winter layers, and good summer layers, though they have a desire in warm weather to perform the part of mothers. They sometimes get J'broody" in the winter season, but are easily broken up.' Besides the above named varieties are the White Faced Black Spanish, the Creve Cosurs, the Cochins, Polands, and the diflIamburghi,Dominiques, ferent breeds of "game," all of which bav their good qualities; but as all of those varieties buve not kept here, we cannot speak of them by experience. Tho cheapest way for the people to procure those improved breeds, is to buy the eggs of those who have imported pure stock into the Territory, and if those parties who desire to get fowls of any variety will send their orders with the amount of first cost to this committee, before February 1st, 1871, it, will try to do justice to everybody, and have them brought here in March, with other stock, which Bro. W. D. Roberts intends to import, whereby the cost of transportation will bo soitkldurahly reduced. . In regard to swine we must confess that our expetianeojl very Mmltod J but we last spring imported twenty-thre- e Ohio improved Cherters into this Territory, which have given general satisfaction os they r gain flch faster llian any ether breed known1 to us,' according to the amount of food consumed. One sow pig, which we kept ourselves, has gained a trifle over one pound and a half per day. Your Committee will take pleasure in information that it giving possesses, and it hopes, that the proposed general improvement of fowls and swiuc, together with oil otUoe etook, will prove a blessing to all ho- - inhabitant of this ' -- full-grow- e, non-sitter- s, . , any-requir- Territory.' ' ." i- An agent of the Interior Department, tent out tome weeks since to make payments to the Indians, amounting to a million dollars, returned last Thursday, having disbursed the whole gam in six weeks, at an, expense of only $15,000. '1 he money was nearly all in small bills and currency, and filled two large boxes. Tho orders of Secretary Cox to the agent were, that in no case should any snui be paid to any attorney, no matter what papers he presented as authority. When the agent arrived at Baxter Springs, Kansas, where, at the request of the Secretary, a strong military guard had boon ordered to be in readiness to accompany him, he found the order countermanded and an officer in chargo, who, while ho apologized for the change was unable to give any reason for it, and said he could only furnish a corporal and two men. By good luck he fell in with a surveying party, and was thus enabled to esoape an attempt e to rob him. At one where many payments were made, two gentlemen who had been appointed by one of the Peace Commissioners to see that all went right, insisted that the agent should violate his orders and pay fees to attorneys present, instead of putting the entire sum in the bands of the Indians. This he refused to do, whereupon these gentlemen misrepresented the conduct of the agent and had one of the Commissioners complain to the Department. After the agent had paid the Indians, these acting commissioners helped to compel the Indians to pay a claim agent largo fees. Wathington Dispatch to Hot-to- n Advertuer. J' " '' pay-tabl- : .
