On Saturday last, a large congrega tion gathered in from different parts of Weber County, and assembled.according to appointment, in the Ogdcn Tabernacle. The First Presidency and about a hundred invited friends came from Salt lake City by a special Utah Central train, and there weTe several viators from Box Elder and Cache Counties. The meetings on Saturday were well attended, and on Sunday the Taberna-ol- e was crowded in every part. Stand, vestry, hall, and even the aisles were filled, and crowds stood in the doorways anxious to hear the instructions delivered. On the stand- and in the ante room were Presidents Brigham Young, Geo. A. Smith and Daniel II. Wells; Elders John Taylor, Lorenzo Snow, F. D. Richards, Geo. Q. Cannon, B. Young, jun., Joseph F. Smith and Albert Carrington of the Twelve Apostles; Elder Joseph Young, President of the Seventies; Eldrrs Elias Smith and Elias Morris, of the Presidency of the High Priests' Quorum: Bishops E. Hunter, A. M. Musser, P. Maughan, E. D. Woolley, S. Woolley, E. T. Sheets, A. II. Rail-eigW. B. Preston, etc., the authorities of Weber County and many leading Elden from different places. After singing by the Choir, prayer was offered by Elder B. Young, jun. - h, MESIb(NT a K0. A. SMITH. ing up the kingdou of the devil. The mun that sustains with his means the enemies of the people of God is putting a knife to his brother's throat and to his own. Those settlements in these mountains that are the freest from outside influence are the most moral and virtuous, and the freest from those evils which Christianity has proved itself powerless to check. We cannot be coworkers with God and the devil at the same time, and, if we attempt to do so, we shall find in the day of storm and trial that we have built upon a sandy foundation. We have come up here to learn the ways of the Lord; let us walk in his paths and not fly the track, but remain stedfast to the end that we may be saved. After singing by the choir, prayer was offered by Elder A. Carrington. 1.30 p.m. The North Ogden Choir sang, and Bishop E. D. Woolley engaged in prayer. ELDER A. CARRINQTON. I wonder we do not more fully realize the importance of the counsel we so frequently receive, that is, to attend strictly to every requirement whi;h our Father in heaven has made upon us. There is nothing in evil which is of any kind of good to any one that now lives or ever has lived on the face of the earth. How foolish is the course which men pursue when they feel determined to carry out their own course and follow their own ways irrespective of the counsels of our kind and wise Heavenly Parent! There is not one particle of bondage or undue subserviency in carrying out the mind and will of God. There is nothing to hinder any person on the face of the earth from knowing of the truth of the principles offered to them by the servants of the Most High God, and there is the utmost liberty that any one can ask in doing good. It is tolerably easy to understand how a person can become so blinded by the powers of darkness as to reject the commandments of God, but I cannot understand how they can be so foolish and wicked as to use their influence to prevent others from obeying the mind and will of the Lord. I am not anxious about the things of this world nor concerned about the trials of poverty, but I am exceedingly anxious that we as the people of God shall live according to the laws revealed, the whisperings of the Holy Spirit and the counsels given to us day by day by the servants of the living God who are appointed to guide and direct us, for there is not one particle of good or benefit to man outside of walking strictly according to the word of the Lord, in that straight and narrow path which leadeth PRESIDENT OEO.
