Or have we grown dlothful which looked very much like a sequel to or careless in regard to these important Year Ahead. It is a lovely epot on which to build a city, capable of sustaining from one hundred to one hundred and fifty industrious families. At present tbe settle-- i meat is small, but the people are thriving prosperous, peaceable and united; it is a very healthy place. .Still with all its advantages it has some few disadvantages. The gray wolf makes "night hideous" with his unearthly howls, and in his nocturnal rounds makes raids on the lieu roosts. For all their mail matter, they have to travel about ten miles, an inconven-enc- o under which they need not labor much longer, as by petitioning the Post Master General they could, surely, obtain a post office, and a mail from here to their own town. In this city, matters generally, both religious and political, are somewhat complicated. There are so many opposite and contending elements in the place, that it seeius impossible to effect a union sufficient to accomplish much for the common good of t he community. After all, perhaps it is right enough, for the good book says "there must needs be opposition." Still I believe it is better for a people to "dwell together in unity." Some time since a petition was gent to the Legislature of Idaho, praying fur a charier to incorporate this city. The prayer was granted ; the instrument was signed by the Governor, and forwarded to this place, but here it is said to have been smuggled by those who were opposed to the petition. Hence it has never seen daylight, and the city remains without a Council, and in statue quo The County is governed by a IJoard of Commissioners, which lias the supervision and control of all other officers in the County. It can hear complaints against, and for auses remove any County officer, and fill his place with another. This Board also names the amount of taxes to bo assessed each season, and controls the public funds of the County. There are several prospecting companies in this region, who have been searching for tho precious metals, but at present with but little success. Some of them are disappointed, some "hope against hope," some feel a little encouraged, and a few think they have found ihe dead thing." There was much curiosity and some excitement here la.st nijrht in consequence of the appearance of the "Northern Lights." They exceeded anything of Hie kind I had ever before soxn. On the north-eas- t there appeared a long, broad belt, the color of which was of a very there apdeep red. In the north-wes- t, peared another belt, similar to that first mentioned, while in a due northern point of the heavens, was a broad open space, which appeared as light almost as day. The beautiful phenomenon lasted about an hour and a half and then dis appeared. From Brigham all through Box Elder county Rud up to this place the hoppers bave again put in ttieir appearance in countless millions, and the ground here is said to bo literally full ot their eggs. Many of the farmers, in consequence of these things, are much discouraged, yet all hope for the best.
