The Court room was crowded with persons anxious to obtain information concerning the dreadful deed, which has excited feelings of the deepest indigna tion throughout the county. As published in our issue of last Wed nesday, the police had succeeded in arresting two men who were strongly suspected of being the murderers. They were found Camped in the brush on an island in the Weber, and tracks exactly f.tting to boots found in their tent, were traced from the spot where the murder was committed to their camping place. The names of the suspectod men are Thomas Knapp and Morgan Day. 8ince their arrest, they have been confined apart, and up to the time of the examination have each protested their innocence. The prisoners were examined separ ately., .Thomas Knapp was first brought up in the custody of Deputy Sheriff Brown. He is a stout young fellow, of moderate height and light complexion, and without any appearance of brutality. After being cautioned by the judge as to criminating' himself, he made a volun tary statement. Said he was 19 years of age and a native of Appleton, Missou ri. His parents died when he was about eight years old. He left Appleton about two and a half years ago, and had been in Washington county, until about six months since, came out here and worked Was out of on the U. P. Day persua ded him to go and stay with him on the Went to the spot where they Weber. were arrested, in February last. Was waiting for $37, which the U. P. Com pany owed him ; received it when the pay car came in the last time. Day per suadod him to go with him and rob the negro woman, Susan Jones, who was supposed to have $300 or $400 in her Day went to her tent on possession. 29th inst., and represented Thursday, himself as a friend of her husband's, in order to look around and lay his plans. At 12 o'clock, the same night he went with Day to the tent; the woman was asleep; he cut a slit in the tent with the knife, in possession of the Court, and Day, who had obtained a coupling iron, went in the tent and knocked the woman on the head. Day lit the lamp, left it burning, took the murdered woman's trunk and a revolver, and they both went to their own tent. They were not disturbed by any one and no one but them knew anything of the, transaction. Said he had never committed any erime before, but had boasted to Day, of having committed a similar crime in Omaha, in order to make Day think he was an old hand, and because Day had told him of several offences against the law, which he had committed. Day had told him of having stolen two saddle-bag(produced in Court,) from the Depot, but they only contained a spoon, two forks and a knife. Also of having poisoned a dog in Ogden, in order to gain access to a house where a man had $1800. Day entered the house and took the trunk, but the money had been banked the previous day, and he only got some suits of clothes, which were too small for Lim ; in this affair he was assisted by two comrades. Said Day told him he was a native of Georgia, where be had owned several niggers, and came out west about five years ago, and had traveled a great deal about the s, On Thursday the trunk nicoviBED. oftbe late Susan 'Jones,'1 (lie colored oman,' wai seen by the son of officer MMdletoftj in the Weber river," about two 'let b.bw th k: R.! He could tell where the chickens have and unfold a gone from the long tale of guilt if he were so disposed, but the hardihood expressed on his countenance when the judge was inter rogating him showed the stamp of the man, and he will fight the matter to the hen-roos- ts eud. Since the examination we learn that the prisoner Knapp has revealed where the pistol and other articles were hid den, and they are now in possession of the police. These can be indentified as the murdered woman's property and thus the chain of evidence is complete. BY TELEGRAPH. AMEIUCAtf. New York, May 4. The Rev. Chas. B.
