OCDEN DIRECTORY. Special to the Ooden Jcnction by the Atlantic Pacific Telegraph Company .J ARRIVAL AND CLOSING OF MAILS, The city prison has lately become so overcrowded with occupants that an ex was made on Saturday to get and tra effort number-o- f prisoners as offaslargea possible to the various penal institutions to which they were sentenced. Thirty men and women were sent to the Auburn penitentiary and forty men and women to Sing Sing. The total number of prisoners now in the Tombs is 1,233 male's and 115 females. North Platte, Neb., 15. Prof. Marsh and lis party arrived here last evening from a very pleasant and successful trip to the Niobrara.anout lio miles north of this point. Ihey procured a quantity of valuable fossils. Hid ofllic Hotly. BY DENNIS m'gIIKGOU. He was probably same time that it was my lffair and Mt his. He tied the pistol tightly to the stump of a sapling, pointing it directly at the corpse, and atter he bad fastened one end sf a ball of small twine to the trigger, he cocked the pistol and began to walk slowly back to the factory, unwinding the ball of twine as he went. At this point 1 began to think him era-zand remonstrated with him. but he brushed me aside, so to Fpeak.by a manner he had. and went on slowly till we got to the factory. Then turning around, he quietly remarked that he didn't they would ever find that body, and immediately gathered up the slack of the string ami gave it a jerk. I win standing just behind him I heard a noise like the sharp crack of five thousand rifles, felt a rustling of wind pasi me, and found mygolf sitting on the ground with Parsons in my lap. Tht-the whole thing flashed upon my mind. He had filled the nigger up with nitroglycerine. . The concussion of the pistol bullet had exploded it, with a result that can be imagined. We mvle our way back to the boarding house. I was trembling? and uncertain, but Parsons couldn't pet done talking to everybody about the fun' we'd had with a little can of and when people talked about hearing the explosion he would break out with a boyish chuckle of pride : "That was us !" AH the next day he was out in the woods with everybody that came along, showing them the hole in the ground and the bare branches of the trees all about the spot where the explosion ocd curred, "from about as much of the stuff," he would explain, "as yon could hold in your mouth." Late in the afternoon the mo' her and grandmother of the nigger came into the factory, inquiring whether anybody bad seen him. Parsons winked at me when he paw them coming, and whisperrd ttnt "I needn't be a fen red of there bein' any funeral in that family this lime." He toli them when Ihey asked him, that be hadn't seen him since yesterday noon, and didn't want to see him again. He was "a triflin', no account boy around the place any how. He reckoned he must have been somewhere around when the explosion took place." This latter rather correct opinion finally prevailed in the neighborhood, and the whole matter was forgotten. The last time I saw Parsons was abont six months afterward. Ho was darting overland for California.
