Ogden. A Hi-other'- l)ipsoniania. Perfidy. s Last fall a man named .' Daniel Coe came from California, to visit bis brother who resides at ltiverdale in this Coun-- ( ty.- -' This Ciole hai fortnerlyresided in this Territory, but left for California some fifteen years ago . On his arrival, his brother, who was very glad, to see him after so long ftu absence,, welcomed him to his home, and treated him with all the kindness that a brother could wish for; and he, in return, manifested tna best of feelings, and appeared grateful for the attention and good will of his ' brother's family. After staying at Riverdule all winter, with the exception of short period.-)- , when the brothers went off together hunting, and fishing, Cole expressed a desire to visit some relatives at Provo, fifty miles south of Salt Lake City. His brother kindly fitted out a team for htm, that he might niukc the journey in comfort, and at his urgent request for his niece to accompany him, the girl's father coneented. The young lady, an artless girl, fifteen years of age, started out in company with her undo for Provo, where they arrived in due course of time and paid the desired visit. What influence Cole brought to bear upon his niece does not appear; but on their way back, he prevailed upon the girl to go with him to go the Justice of the Peace, at Farmington, and there they were f ' joined in mnrrfage. Continuing on iheir way back as far as Kaysville, Cole hired a boy to take the team to Riverdale, and sent by him the marriage certificate. He then took the train to Ogden, and thence to California, taking with him his brother's child, and leaving her distracted parents togriefand misery. The scoundrel Cole had no rcspoct for decency, relationship or gratitude. He requited his brother's kindness by stealing his daughter, and such a villain is not fit to live. Is there any wonder that wise mcq, who watch over the interests of the people, warn parents against the advances of strangers, and advise them to keep their children under a watchful eye? Can it be marvelled at that we Took with' suspicion on the attempted intimacy of "outsiders" with our wives and daughters, when such outrages as the above are perpetrated? We urge upon fathers and mothers throughout the Territory not to suffer their daughters to go far from their presence, unless they know they are in safety, and to use every proper influence to keep both their bojs and girls from the corrupting influence of a certain class of "Gentiles," who certainly have "wnys that are dark and tricks that are vain." Respectable, decent men, ,'Mormon"-o"Gentile," will, if they desire to wed a girl, declare their intentions honorably to the parents or guardians of their choice. Any man who acts contrary to this is not deserving the name of gentleman, and in nine cases out, of tea is a deceiver and a scoundrel.
