Captain Barnett, who has sailed the seven seas in the capacity of whaling captain for ifie company, tells of a thrilling battle with the monster before finally landing the whale; for a long time it looked as though the captain, crew, and in fact the whaling boat, would be lost, it is asserted. Captain Barnett has been granted a years leave of absence by the Messrs. Anfinger and Hutton to accompany the whale on its transcontinental tour which will include stops at the leading American cities. The outfit that will be seen here is headed for the east and will be located at Atlantic City, New Jersey, to show the easterners just how big the Pacific whales turn out to be. They became the greatest of comrades and friends. I have seen a friendship develop between a Canadian who won a high decoration for cleaning out three German machine gun nests and who played a German soldier in the picture and a German who was a crack machine gunner during the war. I have seen a Frenchman, wounded in action over there, agreeing with a German veteran to share a room together after the .picture was completed. There was no segregation. A German drilled Americans and an American handled a squad, of Germans. Not once was there a quarrel or a fight, even in the heat of some of the terrific battle scenes. What happened during the making of the picture is only comparable to the remarkable effect of the book which has transcended the bounds of nationalism the world over and is as popular in America, England and as it is in Germany." else-whe- re Day 40c Esck.
