From H. Harrlman WHI Retire Presidency of Union Pacific. The Deseret News says: W. H. Bancroft, who yesterday was and general appointed manager of the Union Pacific system, It now develops,. Is In lino for still twelve mouths further promotion, from date. The promotion Is due when E. H. Harrlman retires as president of the I'alua Pactnc. Those who profess to know. affirm that it Is a foregone conclusion , that Mr. Bancroft is slated for the presidency. This statement is made by prominent local officials, who this morning declared that following the resignation of Mr. Burt,, the directors of the Union Pacific met and elected Mr. Harrlman president against the expressed desire ot that gentleman, who eventually, compromised by agreeing to serve for a year, when some one ramillar with tho situation and needs of the system would succeed him. It was upon this undemanding that Mr. Harrlman consented to act. although his pressing business affairs make it difficult (or him to devote time and attention to Union Pacific administration. In connection with the numerous rumors that are. hying ground at this time the following special dlspatrh from Omaha lo. the Denver Times j would intimate that Omaha is also agitated over the changes this week: A gigantic railroad combination la being talked of here at a meeting of j the heads of the various Harrlman and i allied lines.
