A SHOE The b.uird of education held ita regular meeiiug last evenof a large vjiuine ing and of business. Many of the mailers touched upon were of Importance and whose of great interest to parent children are In the public schools. During the course of the mer'ing oue uf the members brought out the fact that criucUin had been made of the high school and ui this was atiribured the claim that some of the pupil after graduating from the efglh grades continued their educatiun in other Institution. A general discussion followed and while the complain' nude indirowdyism, rectly, referred to the board took in things uf a graver nature than that whirh is usually convey ed by that word. The consensus of opinion waa that thuae pupils who could be charged with rowdyism were out uf the school at this time and that these mutters were minimized by the faculty almost to a point of perfection. The conduct uf certain girl students came in for sharp critlrism and the fact that aotne high school girls were rehearsing In a cerlaln club for a theatrical performance wa condemned. The board was of the opinion that a club room could not be other than objectionable for atich work, especially for glrla uf school age. The action c of other pupils, on the street and outside of school hours were also referred to and the opinion prevailed that parents were in a measure to blame, as many bad objected to Interference, in such matters, nn the part of the high school faculty. Among the other Important matters discussed during the session was the question of Including s domestic science department In the high school and the addition of a manual training department to several of the grad school. The latter niaiter was to the teachers and Annnre com milters while no action ws taken in regard to the former. Allison William Rupertntendent made's lengthy verbal report on the present condition of the schools, a feature of which waa the fact that there were about 150 more pupila In the grammar grades this month than there was during the corresisindlng month a year agu. This he attributed to the vigilance of the srluNil authorities toward keeplnk the children in school. This ha said had a tendency to rrente'a desire among both the parent and the pupil to give the child at least an eighth grade education. The compulsory education law, he maintained, also assisted in this work to a certain extent. Mr. Allison said that 1 pupils had grandated from the whirh he eighth grades at showthought was a most creditable enter-eing. Fifty of that number had the high school, while but six had decided to go out of school. In his a higher eduopinion tills pointed cational standard among the pupils of today.
