Excellent result were accomplish. last ul year In this department, under the direction of Prof. J. E. Thompson. who baa marked ability in that line. The short time that Prof. Thompson had charge of the military drill the liaya made great advaiicenie.it. and took much inrerest In the work. The matter of organizing the ioniiany Is taking place at the achisil this week. It will lie composed of fifty men and have all Ibe necessary officers, such a Captain, two Lieutenants, four Sergeants. six Corporals and two buglers. The trustees of the school have ordered khaki nnlforms, hats and legging, which will be worn during the summer. Modern guns with steel hammers and Iwyoneta were ordered last year. One hours dally will he devoted to drill and it la the intention of the hoard to have the drill record made a part of the merit system which Is in effect now and gives all the Inmates an opportunity to earn their own parole. When the inmatee are sent to the school they are credited with fifteen merits and if the behavior warrants it they are given one merit a week and when they have sixty-fiv- e merits they are entitled to a parole. Thus It will he seen that no inmate should be there over a year If he respects the rules of the srhool. If their conduct la bad they are given a demerit, which is equivalent to losing a merit. It la deemed advisable to work the merit system In connection with the military drill. As Boon as the buglers learn Ihe different rails, from reveille to taps, there will lie a dress iwraJe or retreat each evening. Instructor Thompson states that an awkward squad will he started and those who do not drill well in the regular drill will be members of It and will be requited to drill during their play houra An effort will lie made to have tha company one of the best drilled private organizations of its kind In the State. No palni will be spared In thla end. An excellent company ran be had and malntaineJ all the time, for all the boys are 'in the school for a year at least. Trustees A. T. Wright, R. T. Horne and N. C. Flygare are to be commended upon their action in this regard, for It Is surely a step in the right direction. Special mention Is also due Secretary Hollingsworth, who has assisted Instructor Thompson in the plans of the drill and the merit system. ier-um- y, The funeral of Mrs. Joseph ristt will lie held from the residence at nine .dock this morning.
