We hope soon to see these fine buildings occupied by their owners. Mr. Carter's exhibition of dissolving views will be given in tho City Hall next Tuesday evening, commencing at 7:30 o'clock. Everybody should attend. Mr. E. D. Moi'si.ey, senior partner in the firm that conducts the "Star Job Office," Salt Lake Come City, dropped in on us again, Emmett, you are always welcome. They expect to start next Thursday morning; and will visit Blackfoot and several other places, in one of which they may possibly remain for a time. SLOPKiNs,who resides on the bench, slid into the houe, and softly remarked that he looked upon the Ogdenites as embryotic Laplanders Mrs. Slopkins asked why, and her lord answered "because they'll soon have a little rain, dear," The doc tor says Mrs. S. is still in a critical condition. Editor Junction: The main item of news during the week in this city was the robbery of Cutler's sale in the Constitution building on Saturday night or Sunday morning. SUSPICION bested On an enterprising mechanic named Clemetshaw, and who.had been a frequent visitor at the store on business, during the day previous. He had also presented a bill on Saturday, and received his pay in money taken from the safe by Mr. Cutler in his presence; he had also been seen going in the direction of the store on Saturday night late, both by a Mr. Short and Watson the watchman. In his premises were found an augur which fitted the holes bored in the wooden partition first penetrated, l and a supposed to have been used in opening the safe. Mr. Clemetshaw conducted.hia own case without the aid of an attorney and made a very good defense, lie closed with a well written argument. .Fudge Snow for the prosecution having waived both the opening and closing argument in the case. Mr. C. denies that the interview between him and cold-chise- SHORT AND WATSON took place on Saturday, but on Friday evening. Ami Mrs. C. and other witnesses testified that Mr. C. went to bed at 10 p.m. on Saturday, and did not rise till Sunday morning ten. The Judge gave it at half-pas- t as his opinion that the chisel in court could not have been the tool used in opening the safe, that it must have been done with drills of which none were found in the premises of accused. Now this suspicion is quite prevalent against Mr. C. although he was discharged; and might perhaps be as well founded against any man who hail gone in to purchase a bill of goods or to present a bill for payment at Mr. Cutler's store during that day, or against any one who might have been met going towards the store during that night,or against any person in such a business as Mr. Clemetshaw who might have a kit of tools in which a augur and a cold chisel were to be found. Still the combination of these, in this connection unfortunvte coincidence seems to have a weight upon the minds of some, and the eye of SVSI'IClOX will rest upon Mr. C. for some time, although he may be and probably is innocent". I thought that the Junction, judging by the way some of my letters are made to read when published, possessed the WORST PROOF-READE- in the Union, but the can boast of his rival at least. In their notice of this burglary they say that "the burglars bored augur holes into one another the width of one of the boards and large enough for a man to crawl through. This effected an entrance." This is very satisfactory news, for it was certainly very kind of the burglars to do to each other what Mr. Cutler would have done for them if he had been within hearAccording to newspaper acing. counts then Mr. Clemetshaw was not one of the burglars, for, judging by his appesrance in court, he had no such gap in his body as that described by the journal in question. The Robbery. a painter who had West, Harry been here but a short time, is the man suspected of having committed the robbery at the depot recently. He had the best opportunity in the world; he disappeared a few minutes before the victim discovered his loss; and he has not Bince been seen, although anxious inquiry for him has been jnade at different stations along the lines of railroads. The Evanston man was arrested for disturbing the peace, and placed in jail, where he is at the present time. His trial will probably take place on Monday. Firs! Farored. A short tjnie since we announced that Hon. R. Nathan Pollock was to deliver an lecture in Salt Lake. We now take pleas-nrin stating that the gentleman will deliver his famous lecture, "Man's answer to the Infidel and Materialist," in Union Hall in this city, on the evening of Wednesday next. Lie gives publicity to the facts that he is not a professor of Chris tianity, and that he will not base his arguments on theology; but from his reputed ability, people are led to believe that his subject will not be treated in an inferior style so far as the 'eloquent advancement of new ideas is concerned. The field which Mr. Pollock enters is a broad one, and one in which many who profess an opposing belief havoj become lost. The interest in the subject is so great that doubtless the hall will be filled on the occasion. e An Ogden Boy. Our readers will remember that in the recent pigeon shooting match held in this city, between the clubs of Corinne and Ogden, a young man who shot with the latter team, made a clean score killing each one of the 13 birds at which he aimed. Thomas J. Stanger is the youth's name, and he now makes this otter: that if, from any cause, the expected match between Messrs. Addoms and Patterson does not occur, he will aooept the challenge of the former, and shoot against him for any sum from 100 to $1,(100. Knowing the abilities of young Stanger, many of his friends confidently hoped that he would have been the first person to match him df against Mr.Addomsjbut through some innocent misunderstanding among the members of the Pgden club, the challenge remained unaccepted until Mr. Patterson published his communication. Drunken Indians. Friday night about 10 o'clock, a gentleman discovered two drunken Indians staggering along the railroad track, a short distance north of the Utah and Northern engine house. They were in a deplorable state, being scarcely able to stand, and continually uttering shrieks and threats. The bystander was unable to make himself understood when speaking to them, and therefore could do nothing with them. He was finally obliged to leave them in their helpless condition. A serious question is presented in connection with this matter; and that is who furnished them with liquor? The officers should search diligently to secure the guilty parties, who, if they can be detected, ought to receive the benefit of the law in the case. GlLKAD.
