We like Kalloch everybody likes him and wishes him well; but he will make as poor a minister in bis sec- con d conversion, as he was when he shook the dust of ungrateful Tremont Temple from his feet. OUUO'. VT.1II. .Tuesday Evening, Januarj 18, '74. A of indictment for breach justice. of trust have been presented against That such an extensive conspira Two bills STRAYED LAMB'S RETUKX. The name and fame of J. S. Kalloch are almost national. Few men in this country are so rarely endowed . with national gifts, yet few who have been so improvident in the use of opportunities to display to advantage the brilliant qualities, which made in the narrow him sphere of life in which he was content to move. He is erratic as all men of genius are said to be, capricious like all who have been spoiled by the caresses offend aduiirers, and inordinately vain, though most insinuating in his conceit. Mr. Kalloch has abandoued the fields of politics and literature, for the pulpit. In Leavenworth, he recently made his appearance before an immense audience, and there publicly recanted his heresies, and renounced the world its pomps and the pre-emine- devil, nt l'ity it is. In making a poor minister, a good Senator,, has boon spoiled. Among the endless array of aspirants for a seat in the United States Senate from Kansas, as the successor of the spotless and virtuous I'omeroy, Kalloch is immeasurably superior to any whose names are mentioned in connection with that office. But with his usual luck he seems to have had no chance,. so he returns to the fold, from which in an evil hour he strayed. The reception of Mr. Kalloch was a perfect ovation. The aisles were full, the area in front of the pulpit; the platform and the galleries, were literally crowded, to hear the distinguished orator, who selected as his text on this auspicious occasion of the of his vows, "But as for me feet were almost gone; my Bteps my bad well nigh sloppsd."
