An attempt lias been made to raise an exeitemeat tmt of a very small affair, and a j.ut demand of a little band of Indians baa boen treated as the beginning of a war with the redskins. A little explanation and wise arrangement h3 quelled the disturbance, settled the difficulty, and dissi- pated public apprehensiwn. A letter from Ssnpete appeared in a Salt Lake paper, yesterday, giving a yeusational account of an attack by Indian warriors on a few Bettlers in Thistle Valley, while the latter were putting in their crops, causing them to flee from the lands purchased of the Government, etc. The writer urged a change to the fighting policy of Nevadi and the mining camps, in the place of feeding the Indians as the first occupants pf the soil, and hinted at the possibility of an Indian war or a general stampede from Sanpete. , i : " .. ' ' , Telegrams from responsible person's acquainted with the facts, now shoir that Indian Joe's band, numbering sixteen, made ao attempt to regain possession of a farm which was fenced off for their benefit about three years ago. They left the farm and two white men were engaged in plowing it, when the Indians came and asked then: t) stop work till the ownership of the land could be settled. The, white men left, but resumed work, when Indian, Joe got mad arJ cut the tteaiu loose fnsni the plows. The white men threatened to shoot, and there was some danger of a collision, when the two white men took their families and fled to Mount Pleasant. Tho other settlers rcmained, and when Li dt. liuchatiaii, who had been dispatched from Camp" Douglas, arrived on the spot with I.ishops lucker and Se ley, all was peace, and a little quiet talk settled the whole matter ncxT-fniirnio- am'cab'y. The officer was surprisod that such an excitement should grow out of so bmalf an affair, aud the other gentle-xut- u with hiua state that if anything like honorable treatment is shown toward the red men, there is not the slightest danger of hostilities. The great difficulty with, the ''superior race" in their dealings with the inferior tribes, is, white men act as though honor nead not enter into any arrangements made with colored person), and especially with, "savage3." This has been the real cause ot most of the Indian wars which have spread desolation, reddened the heavens with ot burning homes, and the stained the earth with human gore. The principle that all people have rights and that those rights should be respected,' cannot be too forcibly stamped upon the minds of the young as well as tha old. First District Sunday School wa held list Sabbath, and I would be pleused to have yoti publish a report of the !oe in yeur valuable pa per. l'ermit me to observe that our efforts during the past two years in this county, have been cbieSy uirec ed to a more thorough organization' or our Sunday schools, and especially to stimulate fire-ligtherein a taste fur sacred musio. Our labors in this l respect have been attended with Tery gratifying results. The tinging, under the able management of Pror. John Fowler, exhibited a very marked advancement in the study ef this elevating art. Six or seren choice pieces of music were rendered in a verv creditable manner; some were executed by the whole school, and the solos ot almost equal importanco that excit- oilier pieoes by a aelect company of young girls, the whole school joining in able persons should be taugty, not to the chorus.
