The books had As a whole, - been audited and were open for the examination of any taxpayer. Some reports were in circulation that ho had U'ed the money through his store; he defied any man to prove this, and pronounced such underhanded assertions to be utterly false, as all the workmen had been paid cash. A motion to adopt the financial report was read, was put and unani" mously carried. A part of the school law referring to the compensation of trustees, was then read, A lively debate between several parties occurred as to the right oi the trustees to appropritte any from the school funds without first consulting the people; the report showed that $75 had been credited to each trustee. Mayor Ilerrick stated the speakers were out of order, as the report had been accepted and nothing more could bo said. Itev, Gillogly did not think they were, as the people were in the dark, for though it had been charged to the trustees, one of them had not received his remuneration aud in justice to him that part of the report relating to trustees' salary should be reconsidered. He made a motion to this effect, which was carried amid loud cheers. Rev. Gillogly then moved that $200 be allowed each trustee for his services during the past two years. Some person amended this motion to read fiOQ. ,Tne amendment was put and lost. The original motion was put andcairied by a large majority. The result was followed by joud applause. The chair appointed C. F. Middle-toThoa. D. Dee and J. M. Langs-dor- f as judges of eleetisn. The notorious Clara Allen, wife of the late E. McMillan, was yesterday brought up before his honor Justice Middleton on a charge of keeping a bouse of ill fame, and for prostitution. The charge being fully proven, Clara was sentenced to imprisonment in the city jail for 107 days. The Assault Case. The case of the people vs. las. Fielding for assault upon the person of Wm. Fowers on the loth of May, was. decided before Justice Middleton, who fined defendant in the sum of $10 and cost. An appeal was taken, and uniil Thursday given defendant to make out appeal papers. We have had cause to refer to the Fielding and Fowers families once or twice recently.; With perfect good feelings to each party 'we sol emnly declare to eaeh that this qu ai re between them is a disgrace and a crving shame. If they do not, the time of bloodsbi will surely come, and a dire story of tho gallows will certainly be told in one or both of the families in future generations. . Horse Race. The Tribune of this morning states (' at on Saturday afternoon and even-ii articles were drawn for a sweepstakes race, with heats according to rule, between the horses Countryman and Mary Emery of Salt Lake and Major King of igden. The parties entering the horses in Salt Lake deposited their entrance, $200 each side, and the whole pot will be traveled I'oroo the ISth inst., tha winner taking all, and the second horso $50, subscribed by the association, Countryman and his per formances are too well known to need recital; Mary Emery is comparatively well known, although it is believed she has never appeared at Salt Lake in a race other than in a double toam. Major King, the Ogden horse, last fall defeated Countryman at Ogden, but there was so much dissatisfaction about tint race that another will prove unusually interestinsr. All three of the horses have been taking moderate training this spring so that with two weeks more good work, all the rough ed'tes will be removed, and a genuine "best horse win" trot can be calculated upon for a surety. 437.20 ;, Hy.tux ... of afternoon, to appear against the culprits. Wednesday afternoon Dr. Kiausch was call- d to attend on a wounded man who had austained some injuries caused by the falling of a section of the smokestack which was being raised to its position by means of block and tackle. Messrs. Robertson, Waison and Matthew Urie, were , engaged in raising the above men-tioned s liokestack when the plank on whi'-it rested broke, letting it fall a distance of six or eight feet. A careful examination of hia injuries revealed the gratifying fact that nothing of a fatal character h 'd resulted from the accident. He was bruised on the head and the left shoulder and side were more or less injured, but not of such a nature as to prevent him from returning to his work in the course of a week or so. Another gentleman. Mr. Lowe, was injured some little, but not so badly as Mr. Urie. Minimi Jteronl. Horse Thieves lauglit. We learn thut last Sunday, Mi. JI. S. Dalton, of Centerville, had eight head of horses stolen. Indications pointed to the fact that the animals had been taken north, and the own er sent his son in pursuit. The young man learned, on his way, that a man named Frank Daly who was recently brought up here for hide stealing and a stranger had pasted along, having in their possession the- atolen animals. The young man immediately came to Ogden, gave information to Sheriff Brown, and sent word to the constables of the different precincts west, of Ogden. Mr. J. C. TRUSTEES' ELECTION.
