A few Bights ago George was arrested with a woman named Julia Mitchell, by He was the police for fornication. locked up in the guard house, and to avoid tbe chain gang, both parlies sig nified their readiness to get married, George representing himself aa a single man. The marriage was accordingly celebrated, and the parties released. A day or two afterwards one Catherine McCombs appeared upon the scene, and had George arrested on a warrant which she swore cut before Justice Euard, charging him with bieamy. She alleged that George had married ber several years ago in Hancock county, under the name of McCombs. On the trial yesterday, Catharine's witnesses not only proved George's marriage to her, but much te ber astonishment, they also proved that he bad married a wife before he had ever met her, and that his first wife bad died before Geerge married wife No. 8. This unexpected evileuce entirely changed tbe case. As George bad a wife when be married Catherine, of course she never was bis wife legally, and had no right to prosecute. Furthermore, as wife No. 1 was dead before George married Julia, of course George being then a widower, bad a perfect right to marry Julia, and Julia is to day bis legal wife. This was the decision of tbe court and George retired happy, to the unspeakable disgust of Catherine.
