The author of an article in tbe Salt Lake Herald, who Burns him self "One Dpop," in commenting up en the affairs of the Territory tells many plain truth?, but is evidently unacquainted with 6me matters which he touches upou. For instance he declares his belief that Tha Mormons as a class are fooled hv their leadors. who are waking bay while the sun shines." This- we consider "one drop" too much. We are pretty well acquainted with the "Mormon" people, and know something of their pastand pre sent,if not of their future. This is how the Mormons" have been fooled by their leaders : The Elders of the Church have gone to many parts ot the world without salary or pecuniary recompense, and preached the gospel more hay than others, Demiss We expected to be able to give some particulars in relation to Mother that is the case all over tbe world, Stickny, who died night before last and has been in all ages. and ws interred yesterday, but as they Bat all those leaders, whether have not come to hand we mnit defer they now be rich or poor, have further notice till Monday. . proven over and over again, in hun ger and thirst, in privation and per secution, on sea and land, in danger and the face of death, that they live for principles and not for property, and that if there is any "fooling" about "Mormonism," tbay are masses of the with equally the people. The idea thrown out by the writer with the watery nom de plume, is 'K)ne Drop" too much, and though it may be popular among a certain class, he cannot "fool" the "Mor mons" with it, fur they know lar more about the facts in case than he does. - according to their faith, pointing to tha Bible in proof of their doctrine, aad promising a divine testimony of its truth to all who embraced it. Many thousands, in various countries, havo maintained that God has given thorn the promised witness, and as evidence of their sincerity have left all to gather with their coreligionists to Utah. That is bow tlfcy were "fooled" on doctrine. The great majority, of them were working people in their Dative lands, and not a few in very great poverty. They have been brought here under the direction of the Elders over sea and land, and not a ship has been wrecked or all the companies which have crossed the treacherous, deep. They have obtained homes of their own.. farms, teams, cattle, and various kinstf property, which they never ciuid have acquired in the position from which they were extricated, nd have been placed in a condition of comparative independence. And this is how they were "fooled" in emigrating. They have been organized in s various Wards and Stakes with and Presidents, appointed to give them advico on all matters in which they need direction. In these organizations they have been able, through unity of effort, to overcome obstacles whhh would have been otherwise insurmountable; and while converting a desert waste into fruitful fields and gardens and building up towns, cities and villages, to the development ofthe Territory and the enrichment of the nati n, they have improved their own condition, prean easier life for pared the way their children, and have enjoyed peace, happiuess and mutual support, while mauy of them have become wealthy. And this is how they have been ''fooled" in their church organization. Bi&h-op- fs They have been permitted to pay into the Church as a free offering to ' of their increase, God, tw ha used for Church purposes, or to let it alone if they don't choose to do so. And the great bulV of them declare that they have felt blessed and have been prospered in observing this regulation, and that they have always had cause to regret its violation. They have been taught to juray, to live honest, upright, sobefy virtuous lives, to bo united in faith :'ahd works, and to avoid vice, sin and 5vil of every kind. Those who preach to and instruct them, do to without pay. And this is how they have been ;&oled'', in their religious exerises. And do their leaders "make hay while the sua shines?" ' If "One Drop" means by this, accumulating one-tent- h (91) if some make THE TRIAL AT BEAVER. The reporter of the Salt Lake Daily Spttoon, who was "ejected from the City Council" for misrepre senting the proceedings of that body, is mw at Beaver, cooking up the in cidents of the trial of Lec and Dame in such form as will suit the 7itiated palates of those who gloat over the sensations fabricated lor the S. L. S. That sweet scented reporter claims to be in "the confidence of the coim, prosecution and Marshal, and in lrequent intercourse with Lee's at torneys," and though in honor bound to sccrcsy in regard to what they have revealed to him in confidence, proceeds to divulgo it freely to the public. His "se;rets," however, are now public property, since it is well known that Leo intends to make a statement, disclosing all he knows iibout the terrible tragedy called the M. untain Meadow massacre. But the kicked out reporter exposes thtj anxiety of the clique to which he beongs, to fix the stain of that crime upon the leaders of the "Mormon" Church, in the following words : "Our ouly equivalent for uiviinr away this arch criminal would bj the value of tbe testiui'iy elicited up' u the trial. If it shall be shown that Brigham Young, or George A. Smith or Daniel II. Wells, or all of them, .were accomplices in the butchery, this good will be attained, - &c" Department, arrived here this rnsrning from the West and went to Salt Lake. Dr. Yarrow, of Lieut. Wheeler's ejpe dition, went East this morning with large collection of specimens for the Smithsonian Institute. Gen. Switzer, of 2d Cavalry, and Col Gillespie, of Gen. Sheridan's staff, bbve gone to Franklin via Utah Northern, in advance of Secretary Belknap and a party of army officers and civilians, who will shortly arrive, on a tour of inspec tion of tbe military posts and camps in the Territories. Fink Painting. At Walton & Co's liquer store, Fifth street, may be seen a sign for a Salt Lake house, painted by Mr. Carl Dahlgreen, a Scandinavian artist, who is engaged in painting the "Devil's Gate," for the Centennial exhi bition. The sign is indisputable evi dense ef the artist's skill and ability. It represents an infant Bacchus with a man's head the latter a splendid por trait of Mr. Erickson, for whom the painting was executed sitting on barrel, from which wine is issuing in a flood strong enough to float it. The figure holds a wine gloss half filled, and around it are clusters of grapes and vine leaves, which are partially reflected in the wine pool below. Tbe pioture was painted in one day.
