From the Kansas City Times, Feb. 5. -- A singular and startling little domestic episode transpired one day last week in the family of Mr. J. E. a railroad employee. His duties are of such a charadter as to require his absence much of his time, and his wife and sister are left alone several lights during the week. His house is somewhat remote from neighbors, and the women being rather timid of have burglars and ways taken the precaution to go to bed with a revolver beneath their pillows as a safeguard againt molesta tion. One night last week an at tempt was made to enter t ie house, but was frustrated by the barking of a little dog. This attempt has kept Mrs. Gulen and her sister, Miss Hoyes, in a protracted state of expectant alarm, lest the thieves should again attempt an entrance. Last Friday night Mr. Gillen left the house for the purpose of going out opon a night run, and was expected to bo absent for two days. The women locked up the doors and retired to bed soon after his departure, and were soon asleep. About 12 o'clock, Mr. Gillen having been changed from his regular run returned to his home, and after trying the front door and failing to effect an entrance, decided npon entering the house without awaking his wife. His effort nearly cost him his life. Mrs. Gillen was awakened by the noise at the Gil-le- front door, and supposing" Ker Whh t NEXT DOOR TO Z.
