Show PIONEER DAY Exten extensive preparations for a fine celebration bration last evening as per anno announcement unco the chairman of the central committee some odthe of the members various subcommittees sub committees on the tile celebration of independence day and raid other citizens assembled at the tile court house to take steps to have a public day of joy and jubilee on next monday monda Y since since tho the independence da day was out of date in the ani past and the proposed national vb thanksgiving a k giving day lay not yet in sight in the future all present manifested willingness and determination to assist in holding a worthy and creditable commemoration of the memorable of july 1847 when tile sturdy pioneers first entered the alkaline plains and sage sa grown hills of the great salt lato lake valley it was the sense of the meeting to retain as far as possible tho the leading features of tho the pro elaborated and agreed upon for the F fourth of july to ro give the occasion however all the vim and impetus necessary in the few short days remaining until next monday it was deemed wise to enlarge or fill some of the committees where vacancies had bad occurred thus hon mayor L J herrick and justice C P middleton were added to the con central committee As the finance committee on the independence day celebration had discharged its duties for that occasion and the financial affairs had been liquidated a new finance committee for E pioneer day was appointed consisting of the bishops of the four wards and their counselors bishop winslow farr being chosen chairman they were requested to bestir themselves aaeng the people to raise additional dit ional subscriptions forthe for the defraying of the necessary expenses As it avas apprehended that one or other of the groups originally nall designed hi in the composition of orthe the procession might be mea grely or not at all represented and as it was desirable that the youth of utah should have a proper and full representation resen tation at great veat gala day it was resolved to add a representation sen tation of the various sunday schools to the procession the superintendents and their assistants were appointed as committees with mr wm yr stowell as chairman various minor appointments were made all with an eye to the tile most impressive and successful execution of the project p act aa As time presses it was resolved to recommend tho the various delegates or representatives of subcommittees to push their labors forward as eagerly eager ya as possible ascertaining definitely who is going to participate in the celebration so that satisfactory statements and can be made at the next general meeting which was set for wednesday Wed wednesday nesda evening july in the court house ouse it is to be expected that none who had come forward before will fall out of the ranks but all join in fraternally and patriotically in celebrating eb the natal day of our common territory |
