Show NOTES snow storm conference crowds freight trains train wreckers EDITOR HERALD hoart winter wi in seems determined to ito hold d fast his grip at least he be ia is making desperate efforts to resist tho tile advent of spring r i n g A blinding snowstorm has ee been raging all day and all night clear from butte all down along the utah northern through the fertile cache valley this has bas considerably sider ably checked the stream of cople people to salt lake city to attend conference this mornings train had n y 47 conference visitors on board b but ti it t is expected that with the return of fine weather the last day or two of conference may yet see multitudes of cache valley people traveling t to the capital I sec see from th the papers that there Is is a report as to anew a new passenger yetra train t boue put on the road road shortly aa As far as I can leorn from tolerably good food authority nothing of the kind is yet t contemplated what may hav have given rise to the report is the fact that there are many extra freight trains being run just now to di dispose oso of the constantly swelling tise tide of traffic As soon as the new time schedule is prepared two more freight trains will be put on the road viz no nos and 10 the business of the road i is assuming proportion which will justify jus assuming atif y and a necessitate even greater expansion of f tho the rolling stock ere long on just in in proportions of the development of the northern country I have yet failed to sec see in the papers a attempt made a few days ago to wreck a train on the narrow gauge on monday evening some employees walking on the railroad track between the stations of glen and melrose near the northern end of the read fortunately perceived that at a curve of the track the fish plates lates and spikes had been removed from from the rails exposing them to ruin and the first train coming along to wreck and destruction tho the officials at both stations mentioned were informed and all trains stopped from passing p 19 the dangerous spot until axt tho track r ak was repaired it has since lee been learned that a week ago a tools were stolen from section ban handa S and on the evening of tho the contemplated attack five desperate looking heavily armed men were noticed in the neighborhood A sharp lookout is being kept up for them and on their ti leir i apprehension it would be made buncom uncomfortably aej orta b ly warm warra for them thanks to tho the vigilance and prompt action ef of the railroad employees Elo the intended disaster has been can prevented R R ABOARD U N april 1882 |
