Show JUDGE WORKS IS NEXTSENATOR Sacramento, Cal., Jan. 10. The house of representatives of the state legislature gave a majority for Judge John D. Works for United States sen-' ator over A. G. Spalding, by n vote of 02 to 10. This insures Works' election elec-tion whatever the vote of the state senate may be, as the total vote of both bouses is only 120. Judge Works was the candidate of tho (progressives at the state primaries, primar-ies, his principal opponent being A. G. Spalding of San Diego. Works received re-ceived tho popular vote at the pri-' maries, while Spalding carried a ma-! jority of the districts. Judge Works was formerly an associate asso-ciate justice of the state supreme court. He resides in Los Angeles and by his election today, he succeeds Senator Frank P. Flint. |
