Vardaman received re-ceived a sufficient number of votes in yesterday's Democratic primarv to insure his election tomorrow to the United StateB senate was practically conceded this afternoon by all factions. fac-tions. At noon Vardaman was ahead of the combined vote of Alexander and Percy by 15,000, with indications that further returns would add to this lead. Jackson, Miss., Aug. 2. Returns received re-ceived here up to 9 o'clock this morning morn-ing from the Mississippi primary election elec-tion of Tuesday in the race for United Unit-ed States senator, give former Governor Gov-ernor James K Vardhman a lead over both of his competitors. Complete Com-plete returns have been received from 500 precincts, and the vote cast was 47,136, divided as follows: Vardaman 24.588; Percy 10.671; Alexander, 11,877 This gives Vardaman Varda-man a lead of 2.040 over both C. H. Alexander and Senator Loroy Percy. If this ratio is maintained, Vardaman Varda-man Hhould have a majority of all votes cast, making n second primary unnecessary and assuring the former governor a seat in the United States senate. |
