Show TERRIBLE MURDER OF EHTIRE FAHILY ELLSWORTH, Kas , Oct. 16. Slain as they slept Sunday night, the bodies of Will Showman, a chauffeur his wife and three small children worn discovered today in tho Showmnn homo by a neighbor who chanced to call and who entered the house when no one responded to his knocks. Tho foatures of tho victims were battered beyond recognition by the blows of an ax, which the slayer had used Tho youngest member of tho family, a baby, had been beaten until its hoad was severed from the body. All three children wero under 5 years old Although the crime was committed last night it was not discovered until 6 o'clock this evening. The authorities authori-ties have failed to find anything pointing point-ing to a cause for the crime or a clew to the guilty person. The names of the victims are. WILLIAM SHOWMAN, aged 33. SHOWMAN, his wife. LESTER SHOWMAN, aged 5. FERN SHOWMAN, aged 4. SEXTON SHOWMAN, aged 1. The two latter arc girls. The Showman homo is a small two room cottage in the outskirts of Ellsworth, Ells-worth, 300 or 400 yards from the nearest near-est house. The bodies of the five victims were found in one room, the father, mother and baby on one bed and the two other oth-er children In a Becond bed. Tho room lookod like a slaughter pen There was blood on thp walls, celling, floor, beds and every article in the room. In this room a bloody ax, which tho murderer had used and left in his flight, was found. Last night all tho members of the Showman family visited at the homo of Mrs. C. W. Snook, a friend living soveral blocks away. They left the Snook home about 9 o'clock. This was the last time any of them wero 3een allvo. Mrs. Snook discovered tho quintuple quin-tuple killing. She called at the Showman Show-man homo a few minutes before 6 o'clock. Her knock was unanswered so she opened the door and walkod Into the houso, entering the room in which tho bod'es of the fivo victims lay. She quickly gave the alarm. It was then nearly dark and the officers wore unable to find anything which would furnish a clow to the slayor. oo |
