Show 00 1 FORMER UNITED STATES SENATOR IS DEAD San Francisco Oct. IS Former United States Senator Abram Pease Williams, who was appointed by Governor Gov-ernor George Stoncman In 1SSG to fill the unexpired term of Senator John F. Miller, who died in office, died here today aged 79. Mr. Williams was a native of Portland, Me., but came to California when twenty years of age, 'and engaged in mercantile mer-cantile pursuits, retiring In 1895. Senator Williams was treasurer of the state Republican committee In 1SS0, and as chairman of that body In 1SS4, conducted in this state the campaign cam-paign of James G. Blaine for tho presidency. pres-idency. In 1894, he founded the San Francisco Board of Trade. He Is survived by a widow .and four brothers. Tho remains will bo taken to Fairfield, Me , for Interment. 00 |
