Show BROWNE'S REASONS ARE SET FORTH Chicago. Oct. 7 I-oe ONeil Browne, testifying before the Lorlmer , investigating committee today, gave the following as legitimate reasons for the Democratic votes which elevated ele-vated Mr. Lorlmer to t the United States senate: 1 it was desirable to break the deadlock which had left public business busi-ness in neglect 2 Mr. lorlmer was considered more Ix-mocratic in s..me of his views than nnv other Republican. 3 The election of Mr. Lorlmer promised to split the Re-lican par-tv par-tv of the state, thus Increasing the chance of Democratic success at the polls. . 4 It was believed that in gratltudn to men who made bin election possi ble, Mr. Iorlmer would extend to tho Democrats patronage otherwise not to Ik? thought of by a Democrat. Mr. Ijorlmer, however, made no promises. |
