Show H CANCER A PUZZLE. H There is no other one thing, probably, which the doctors are H working harder' on than the problem of the cancer. Cancers are a H common complaint in all countries, and though they have been studied H and studied, little has been found out as to their real nature yet. H Some authorities think they are growths caused by outside or H parasitic germs which become lodged in the tissues of the body. The H more general view expressed at the International Conference for the H Study of Cancer, recently held in Paris, however, was that they ore H caused by the rebellious action of the ordinary cells, 'as a result of H some local injury or irritation. H The tissues of the body oan play very strange pranks under some H conditions, and cancer is one of the few diseases which seem to con- H stantly elude inquiry or oure. As Dr. Tuffier, of Beaujon, France, H said at the conference: "Do what you like, the cancer does what it H likes. Each cancer make3 its own rules, and that is why they seldom H yield to known treatments." H When a cancer first starts it oan sometimos bo "starved out" by M putting the patient on a very low diet but this may also starve the H patient out. The X-rays and radium-rays are also a benefit in the B early stages of tho disease, and also a cancer may be cut out when HL & it is smallbut there r no certainty of results. However, the efforts H now being t.6.o.cd to -hiding' a cancer cure will no doubt result in 1 success before many years. -H ' ' 1 -, H ' .., r 1 r- T |
