Show andrew jackson obituary kershaw who died jan 0 waa the son of james kershaw and mary lawton he wa born jan at Philadelphia penn in his youth he wa apprenticed to and for many years worked at brass foundering and finishing on the of march 1848 he was married at pittsburg penn to isabella borriston riston by eliom he bad eight children all of whom are dead in 1861 the mother of these children died at st louis and A J kershaw was left a widower november he was married to sarah styles when the civil war broke out he in common with many others joined the home guards in st louis missouri in 1876 he dime to utah and in ogdan in the fall of the same year ho joined tho church of jesua christ of latter day saints he was baptized by elder david M stuart on sept 7 1876 he was ordained an elder by bishop thomas taylor after settling in option he resumed his business of plumbing and steam pipe fitting and built up a prosperous trade in 1889 lie bought out the canning factory from mr mckinney which industry he continued for years in 1891 he sold his interest in the business to R 0 lundy his then partner in 1889 elder kershaw was committed to the utah penitentiary being sentenced for eighteen months for the infraction of the edmunds law after he camo out of prison his health broke down and lie never chenco forward recovered his physical strength he had become much dispirited and this con diction finally developed into deep melancholy from which lie never recovered alie obsequies were held on alie ath instant in the fourth ward meeting house those who took active in alie services were bishop E stratford who conducted them elder joseph 11 president angus M cannon elders joaeph bull john asli isaac B nash W H wright elias morris the speakers testified to the integrity of their departed friend and brother ho waa a man of truth and trong in his convictions which he honored to tho day of his death he leaves a family including six children two girls and tour boye living ho has buried one child salt eake st louis and pittsburg Pit papare please copy |
