Show SILAST.WHITAKER CUTS HIS THROAT Salt I.ake .May 6 -Silas T Whitaker, Whit-aker, 55 years of age. for many years connected with the county surveyor's office, and one of the best-known men In the city, committed suicide at his home, 1G54 South West Temple street, yesterday afternoon by cutting his throat with a pocket knife The jugular vein was severed. The act I was committed In the loft of his barn, near the house. Mr. Whitaker. his relatives say, was not in his right mind when he took his life Tuesday afternoon he fell j trom his barn and was rendered un-1 conscious. Ho soon recovered his senses, however, but thereafter com plained of severe pains and did not leave his home. Yesterday afternoon he felt better and went out into the garden, where his wife and children were working, later he went to the barn, but nothing was thought of the matter for about a half hour when his prolonged abbence caused sus picion that some harm might have befallen be-fallen him. A search was made and his body was found In the loft Mr. Whitaker was born in this city, his father being George Whitaker. who reached this place with the first band of Mormon pioncrs on July 24, 1847. Iu addition to his wife and three children Mr Whitaker Is survived by three brothers and one sister Funeral services will be held at the family residence Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be private, w itb , interment in City cemetery |
