Show oo BOYS AND GIRLS FOR PEACE. A new peace movement has started. The boys and girls of Oakland, Call fornla, have begun a world's move ment in which tho children of all nations are to declare against war What are known as the "Garden Soldiers" Sol-diers" of the coast city are asking the assistance of the commercial clubs of Oakland to arrange for an "International Peace Convention" to be held in Oakland during the world's fair. A feature of the plan as at present outlined is that the convention conven-tion shall consist exclusively of boys and glrl6. The general staff of the Garden Soldiers Sol-diers is organizing its campaign foi growing 2,000,000 geranium plants to be used in beautifying the streets of the city. The following preliminary announcement in relation to this work was made b Truman Mitchell, chairman chair-man of the campaign committee of the general staff: ' If we get the right kind of support sup-port from the adults we can do Oakland Oak-land mllllGUs of dollars worth of good, and in order to get that support we are planning a 'wake-the adults-up' campaign, the first gun of which frill soon be fired." Already the 20,000 boys and girls have planted millions of flowers along the streets of Oakland, and their plans have only been begun The movement, originating In Oakland, has spread to a number of other cities both on the Pacific coast and in the East This ta a campaign that Ogden boys and girls might well enter. While the horrors of war are being brought to the attention of the reader of the newspapers, every one should be stirred to tho utmost to make those barbarities Impossible by a worldwide world-wide movement for peace. |
