Show I WAR BRINGING ! MUCHJDLENESS (Correspondence of the Associated Press.) Berlin, Aug. 27 War has brought in its train widespread involuntary idleness Factories are cloRin down or running short handed and the pinch of non-emploj ment is felt everywhere among the working classos Symptoms of it are seen in the numbers num-bers of working men appearing on the streets as newsboys or seeking other unusual employment and in the heavy calls for assistance from the municipal and labor funds, Some trades, however, are affected in the opposite direction Bakers and butchers are being advertised for, so many having been called into field sen ice with the troops thnt for a time interruptions In the city's supply of bread and meat were feared. Brewers Brew-ers are also in demand, the breweriea being in full operation to supply the increased demand from the cafes and restaurants where the public gather to await the war news; and saddlers tailors and carpenters are working overtime to supply the needs of the army. Volunteers Being Drilled The waBte of war has opened for the volunteers. The depot organizations of the a1nus regiments are calllnr; for these men, drilling them under the supervision of superannuated officers cind non-commissioned officers, and preparing them to fill up the gaps lri the ranks left by the casualties of war The bodies of the dead in this war are not. with occasional exceptions, returned to their relatives but are burled on the field and where numbers num-bers require it. are burled In common graves Valuables, papers and mo-mentoes mo-mentoes are taken from the bodies and made up in little packets to bo sent to the reiatives, and the dead soldiers, each wrapped In his canvas shelter tent, as shroud, are laid, friend and foe. side by side In long trenches In the ground for which they have contested. The great number of prisoners of war taken by the Germans In the early battles of the war already constitute a problem for the home authorities. They are being quartered in concentration concen-tration camps usually located on the maneuver grounds of the various army corps, are being put to work r.n the roads and are subjected to compulsory compul-sory vaccination to prevent the outbreak out-break of smallpox.
