Show BUTTE WILE BE WITHOUT UNION; Butte. Mont.. Sept K. Mining companies com-panies of Butte in a joint statement declared late tonight for the "open shop." The statement said that hereafter neither Butte Miners' union No. 1 of the Western Federation of Miners nor the Butte Mine Workers' union would be recognized. It promises adherence to wages and hours existing exist-ing under the old contract with the Western Federation The companies said they had decided de-cided to take into their own hands the matter oi whom they intended to employ only after they arrived at the conclusion that neither the Butte Miners' Mi-ners' n n ion No. 1 nor the Butte Mine Workers union was capable of proper prop-er organization. Proceeding to remove Mayor Lewis Lew-is J Duncan from office on the alleged al-leged grounds that he failed to do his duty in suppressing local troubles were begun here tonight when an "accusation" "ac-cusation" signed by Peter Breen. a local attorney, was filed in the court of District Judge J J Lynch. The accusation describes the disturbed condition of Butte and the alleged tailure of the mayor to suppress the threatening elements or attempt to Buppresa them. Eight arrests, five of them for minor mi-nor offensls, were made by the militia mili-tia in the last twenty-four hours. The military committee met today but adjourned until tomorrow morning. |
