Butte. Mont , Sept. 0 Judge Geo. M. Bourquin in the United States dis-trict dis-trict court today overruled the motion ol the National Guard of Montana to quash the application for a writ of habeas corpus asked in behalf of three men held prisoners by the mlli- HJ tia here The court gave the military officers until 1 o'clock this afternoon to show IH cause why the writ should not issue. 1H The court's ruling holds that notwith- HJ standing that martial law is in effect 1H here, habeas corpus has not been IH suspended. Open Shop Declared. The statement of the mining companies com-panies operating in the Butte district that henceforth thoy will recognize neither thp local union of the Weal-em Weal-em Federation of Miners nor the Butte Mine Workers' union, the new independent organization, had no effect ef-fect on the number of men who re-porl re-porl Bd for work today. The companies will not discriml-i, discriml-i, j gainst the unions however, and while the companies will not recot nize the unions in the dealing with the employes it Is probably that very f,.u men will find work in the mines who are net union men. |
