Show atts S IS DEAD e v peacefully away sunday evening surrounded by tho members of his family all that was mortal parted fram his soul surrounded by the members of hia family all that was mortal parted from jils stephen S schramm one of the oldest residents of ogden and for years identified with the city passed away at hla home 2351 adams avenue at 6 sunday evening he bad been but a short time but hla disease was enlargement of tho liver and though a man of strong constitution he gradually but rapidly drew near the end to one of the family he said on thanksgiving day 1 I am sicker today than I 1 have been for 65 years when six years old I 1 had scarlet fever and have never been sick a day since lie had reached the ago of 72 and it was a life of noble works a life tt care and business in which his ener CT shaped many ends he was a man ot method and his habits were such that it was expected that he would iivo years longer but the messenger came and he answered the call with a reeling of peace satisfied that his lifes work was done STEPHEN SMITH schramm stephen S schramm was born february 20 in seneca county new york and emigrated with his parents in may to lake county ohio his early alfo was spent on a farm and ills education was in a district school he was married augustest 1852 to miss ellen viall in lake county ohio where all of his children four in all were born he removed from ohio to ogden in 1874 the change being made for tho purpose of benefiting the of bis wife since living in ogden he has always occupied a high place as a citizen and public spirited man of affairs and was especially prominent in the real estate business tor many years ono of hla daughters married mr C L peebles and in with him mr schramm has been tor years in the drug business retiring from that only a year ago la masonry ho has been a pillar in the west and especially in utah he was made a master mason in 1863 and ana one of the charter members ot weber lodge no C A P A M which was organized in the tall of 1874 he has acted as grand marshal at alldaf onic funerals and on all public occasions of lodge or over twenty yeara until 1895 and in was elected an honorary life member of the lodge he was elected an active member of the masonic veteran association of the pacific coast in 1895 and at the time of w ajl hla death waa a hoyal arch mason and a charter member and organizer of ogden chapter no 2 ho bad filled all tho chairs in both the blue lodge and the royal arch lie was the oldest living ot weber lodge ho leaves to mourn his demise bis wife one daughter mrs C L peebles and two sons george V living in og dan and P C living in salt lake and two bisters mrs rebecca A white 0 and miss nancy J nm at ogden together with a host of friends who will ever remember and holdI ear their friendship with stephen smith schramm the funeral services will be held wednesday afternoon at 2 tho place to be named later the services to be conducted by the grand master of the grand lodge of utah A F and A M there will bo a special train bearing a largo party from salt lake among whom will be tho oldest masons of jhc thc who will pay their last respects to their worthy brother |
