The only change in the Union Pacific board was the election of S. IL II. Clark in place of Holoomo, whom he succeeds as general manager. The election or of ficers resulted aa follows: President Sidney Dillon; vice president, S. H. H. Clark; second vice president, (i. M. Lane; comptroller, Oliver W. vvinki: treasurer, G. Harris; secretary, A lexan-de- r Miller. In adjourning the meeting President Dillon said: "During the few years that I have left to stay in the world, I hoie to see the Union Pacific prosper, and if with ' my feeble voice and health can make it I will. During the past year something has been the matter, I can't say exactly what, With dry weather and poor crops tne roau nas oeen use a man cut in halves and one has been trying to do the work of two. I think with the present outlook for large caops the road will show large earnings this year. PROMINENT OFFICIALS INTERVIEWED. To a reporter the president said: "The collateral trust mortgage is not in shape yet and nothing can be said about it." Another Union Pacific director says: The bond plan has not been matured. We simply ask authority so the board could act during the year if necessary. Goukl has not promised to take any of the bonds. The mortgage will probably be for $25,000,000 nnd a general mortgage on the main line, and a particular mortgage upon our good treasury bonds." Jay Gould, in an interview, said, "the proposed new collateral trust five per cent mortgage will be limited to but not more than ten millions will be issued now. It may not be necessary to make any stock revision with the issue, as the Union Pacific credit is improving rapidly. We ought to realize nine millions of cash from these bonds. We cannot under the law mortgage the main line to Omaha, but the new bonds will cover the Kansas Pacific main line to Kansas City as well as the entire Kansas Pacific system and Denver Pacific. It will ultimately become the first mortgage on the Kansas Pacific main line, and it will also be secured by Union Pacific and Denver and Gulf consolidated five per cent bonds and collateral trust five per cent bonds, as well aa by other bonds in our assets. Of course I shall take some of the bonds. I do not know of better security." Local Kail road Notes. C. P. A reporter looked Logan Nation: over the Agricultural College grounds and buildings yesterday and found every thing progressing smoothly at the great national experiment station. Snriniz work is being pushed rapidly, and the beautiful grounds are fast taking on their coat of green. A piece of land has been rented from the county about a mile north of the college, which will also be used in making experiments. A con siderable number of workmen are em ployed at the station, carrying forward the great work begun by way of experiments. While turning on the water, Mr. Corey noticed four or five men around the tank, and when just through they began to show an interest in him, one walking toward him saying "Hello Jack," at the same time putting out his hand. Corey replied, "My name is not Jack," and at the same time retreated toward the buggy which Highland was holding all ready to drive up town. Seeing they could not wheedle Corey the gang of hold-up- s which now had reached a dozen in number, made for him, but he jumped into the buggy, the whip was laid on and the horses soon distanced the gang which sent a chorus of yells after the Hying team.
