Mr. Graves moved that the first recommendation of the committee be The recommendaadopted. Carried. tion regarding the resolution to be prepared by the city attorney was also adopted. The recommendation to require a bond was not accepted, as it was deemed unnecessary. Then arose much jangling as to what part of the report bad been accepted. It w as finally settled amicably. The city attorney was instructed to prepare an ordinance providing that the city marshal shall have eiclusive athor-itover the city jail y OSE ORDIHAMCE P ASHED. On motion of Mr. Allison, the ordinance prnted by the Ogden Electric Railwv . . opany was taken up for its The original ordinance first tk wi passed Sept. 19, 1390, was amended by striking out "ten miles" and inserting "five miles." The ordinance was" read the second time and read the third time by its title. After the reading it was discovered that the ordinance had no title. It was provided with one and was again read. The vote on adopting the ordinance was unanimous. MC8T DO BUSINESS. The ordinance granting an additional franchise to the Ogden City Street Rail-wa- s company, was taken up for its third reading. It was amended so that the company if it failed to run its cars over any part of its line at least twelve times a day shall be given 30 days notice to remove its tracks and leave the street in as good condition as before. On motion of Mr. Allison the ordinance was slightly amended and put on its final passage and received the support of all except Mr. Elliott. THE SEWER ORDINANCE TOO. Having passed two street railway ordinances the council took up the sewer ordinanca for its third reading. Some members grew weary about this time and soriu of them whiled away the time in light conversation. The mayor had to announce in distinct tones that the recorder had the floor. The ordinance was amended so that any firm having experience in plumbing could have a license to make connections with the city sewers, after which the council passed the ordinance uaani-mousl- y. STILL ANOTHER ORDINANCE. The ordinance repealing an ordinance passed September 11, 1890 to provide money to build public buildings was taken up for its third reading. On motion of Mr. Spencer it was passed unanimously All three ordinances were ordered printed in The Commercial. The mayor and Councilmen Graves and Elliott were appointed a committee to destroy the unused bonds. THE COMPLETED SEWERS. The matter of accepting the city sewers came up. On account of the lateness of the hour a motion was made to adjourn. This stirred up Mr. Wilker-so- n who kicked vigorously, saying that the contractors had been waiting for three weeks on the city and the council certainly might wait one hour. The motion to adjourn was lost. The mayor asked the engineer how long the sewer had been completed. He replied only a few days. Further discussion and interruption by Mr. Wilker-so- n was objected t. and the council then j listened to an elaborate report from the city engineer on the cost ot constructing the sewer. The total cost of the sewer is $72,997.28 exclusive of the cement and material furnished by the city. The amount yet due the contractors is $,097.55, 10 per cent of the whole cost to be held back six months. NOT YET ACCEPTED. Mr. Dee, of the sewer committee, explained that the committee on Bewers was unable to make a report as the report of the engineer has only recently been completed. He recommended a special meeting. Mr. Elliott urged action as the people are clamorous for the acceptance of the work so that connections can be made at once. There are twenty-fiv- e or fifty people waiting now to connect their buildings with the sewer. Mr. Allison was opposed to taking hasty action. There were some requirements of the contract which had not been complied with and moved that the whole matter be referred to the sewer committee with the city engineer, city attorney and mayor added, with instructions to report at the next regular meeting. Carried. A discussion arose as to the right official to collect the sewer tax. This matter was referred to the city attorney. Adjourned. Presbyterians, Take Notice. A special meeting will be held at the Presbyterian church Thursday evening at 7:30 for the' purpose ot amending the articles of incorporation. All the members are requested to be present.
