Show AG0SE HOOP SQUAD TO LEAVE FOR COAST Romney Has Series of Games Scheduled During Holidays. With final examinations out of the way which have marred the Utah Aggie cage practices somewhat some-what last week, the Farmers settled down to intensive drills the forepart of the week before they depart the day after Christmas on their hoop tour of the San Francisco bay region in sunny California. Monday evening Coach Dick Romney will attempt to iron out the defensive and offensive flaws in the Aggie attack when they engage the Cache Valley Coaches for the third time in the last fortnight. The Aggie mentor will also use this game as a means, as much as is possible, to bring to the surface the smoothest functioning func-tioning Farmer aggregation. After the best combination was supposedly supposed-ly found, most recent practices have had sevral members of the number two five put in some flashy exhibitions. Captain Roland Reading and Evan Baugh are still handling the regular forward assignments despite de-spite the improved play of Soph-, omore Grant Cullimore and sharp-shooting sharp-shooting Ed Izatt. At the center post lanky Glen Maughan has the inside track for starting honors, if there is any edge to ba had, as Jack Mayne, who created quite a sensation with the Aggie fans no less than ten days ago for his ability to bombard the hoop and team up with the remainder of the number one five, is fighting hard to stay in the scramble. Only Nick Drakulich seems to have a fairly good hold on a guard past so far, as Keith Trane and Austin Hughes are waging a hot battle for the other. Hughes has been playing the major portion of the time, but Trane has been tried out several times, and on each instance his performance was little short of phenomenal. He is a classy ball handler, a good floor man, a good scorer and an excellent ex-cellent backboard player. Harold Simpson is a fourth guard who is getting plenty of consideration. In the initial contest of the coast tour the Romneymen will tangle with strong California Bears on December 28 at Berkeley where they will also collide with St. Mary's hoopttcrs two days later. On January 3 the Arie hoopmen engsge the Stanford Indians In-dians at Palo Alto and conrludr the California scries a day latfr when they take o the San Jose Spartans. |
