Although the building went down quickly, the memories will linger for quite awhile. The adjoining article depicts some typical nights at the local bar as remembered by Gary Kimball. By Gary Kimball .1 Last Saturday night the Cozy Tavern was really lively. No seats at the bar were available. Squeezing between two old patrons' I waited for the bar-maid. I commented to the first old patron as a matter of palter how crowded it was and added loud enough for patron two to hear that when he went to the restroom I would steal his seat. Patron two shouted, "By God! When I go to the John I'll take my 'stool' with me!" I thanked him for his kind consideration and waited quietly for my beer. Later I found a seat at the end of the bar. Next to me was a local boy with a troubled look. I inquired about the nature of his problem and learned that he was waiting for a deputy sheriff to pick him up at midnight and take him to Coalville, the county seat to spend three days in jail for disturbing the peace. I consoled con-soled him with the fact that I too would be troubled if I knew that I was going to jail. '...he was afraid they would not feed him. ' He informed me that jail was not the problem itself, but tomorrow being "fast-Sunday" "fast-Sunday" he was afraid that they would not feed him. I finished my beer and left. September 6, 1975 The Cozy Revisited On visiting the Cozy Tavern last night, I found the 'hippie' bar-maid in an exuberant mood. On inquiring about the reason for her good mood, she told me that she had a free medical examination that afternoon in Salt Lake at the State Board of Health. On expressing surprise that they did not charge her she exclaimed that, "The State never charges in their continuous con-tinuous fight against. Social diseases, they only ask zillions of questions." I guess that the way I pushed my beer away, and set back, that she decided to set my mind at ease. With a smile she said, "They gave me a clean bill of health. But were they surprised to learn I was from Park City....They said that Park City was a very infectious place. Of course, I corrected , them. Park City is a very affectionate place! " I finished my beer and left. December 5, 1975 New York Philharmonic To Appear In Ogden Utah music lovers will be happy to hear that the New York Philharmonic will be performing in Ogden June 14. This special appearance, presented by Weber State College, is part of the Bell System American Orchestras Or-chestras on Tour program. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. in the Dee Events Center. Under the program, the Bell System will financially support the tours of seven major American orchestras across the country through 1982. Nearly 100 concerts will be held during 1979. "The objective of the 'Bell System American Orchestras Or-chestras on Tour' program is to extend the reach of great symphony orchestras beyond their resident concert con-cert halls through tours, bringing classical music to far greater numbers of people throughout the United States," said Tom Lindblom, Mountain Bell vice president and Utah general manager. Lindblom said the or chestras participating in the first year of the program have determined the tour cities they will visit and the performance schedules they will follow while on tour. "The Bell System is helping to sponsor the tours of these orchestras by funding fun-ding the deficit associated with the tours of each participating par-ticipating orchestra. "Orchestras in this country coun-try cannot recover through performance revenues alone the costs associated with the fi Spado! nf Cn. Strokes for CJiomoer folks Hats off to Blue Church manager Bob Rosen and his staff for hosting a great Barbeque for his ASTA guests. Another example of the special Park City touch. B tours," Lindblom added. "The program represents the largest financial commitment com-mitment ever made by a company in support of symphony sym-phony orchestra touring." Other orchestras participating par-ticipating in the program include the Boston Symphony Sym-phony Orchestra, The Chicago Symphony, The Cleveland Orchestra, w Angeles Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. "This program is a natural extension of our, association with fine music over the years. The Bell System introduced the Bell Telephone Hour on network radio in April 1940 and con-i tinued to sponsor it on radio and television for the next 28 years," Lindblom ex- plained. Tickets may be purchased at the Dee Events Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday Mon-day through Friday, or by calling 1-626-6550 within the state of 1 (801) 626-6550 if from outside of Utah. ' As part of this program, Mountain Bell wille giving complimentary tickets to orchestra leaders : throughout the state on the high school and college levels. In addition, there will also be tickets given to the orchestra leader's partner par-tner and one of hisher outstanding out-standing students. The Cozy, Once Again I stopped by the Cozy Tavern the other night to have a few beers. The place was in it's usual imbibed state. The 'Old Digger,' who after af-ter a few beers, started his perpetual lecture on the "Art of Mining" and was "driving a 'raise'" as "true" as any miner could and "faster" than most. After some twenty minutes of his, "driving a 'raise'", the confused hippie barmaid stopped him mid-sentence mid-sentence and said, "I can drive a 'raise' truer and faster than anyone in this bar!" I moved to the other end of the bar to escape the "flak" that was sure to fly. Setting next to Ron, who had just accepted the employment em-ployment of caring for the "City Cemetery," I congratualated him on becoming the town "sexton". "sex-ton". He threw a good natured elbow into my ribs and proclaimed, "Hell, I ain't no more of a pervert than you are Kimball." I finished my beer and left. August 26, 1976 The Cozy, Again Stopped in the Cozy last night for a few beers and to check on the political atmosphere at-mosphere since the election is only two days away. Most of the conversations were centered on a knifing up the street the night before. The concerted opinion being that as long as "longhairs" only stab other "longhairs" there is no real problem. Two old patrons were in a heated discussion over whether deaf mutes have accents. One maintained that Southern mutes have a drawl. He demonstrated repeatedly how the "ya all" was done. Using the mute hand symbol for the letter L with a slow sweeping jester to make his point. Unfortunately, Unfor-tunately, he mistakenly used his middle finger instead in-stead of his forefinger to form the mute letter L. In fear that I would be drawn into their conversation, conver-sation, I retreated to the end of the bar. Next to me sat the Cozy legal expert who was counseling a woman patron on whether she had grounds for a law suit. It seemed that the lady had used some campaign literature that was left with her by one of the leading candidates to line the bottom bot-tom of her canary cage and that the canary had come down with dysentery. I finished my beer and left.
